Re: Broke my wifi in BIOS

OK. Thanks for the help so far. I did a fresh install of Mint 19 alongside the previous OSs and still no wifi - as I suspected would be the case. When I try to open Driver Manager I just get the message 'Drivers cannot be installed'. The output from inxi -Fxz is: To run a command as administrator (u...

Re: Broke my wifi in BIOS

In both OSs (Win7 and Mint) it says 'wifi unavailable'.

Even when I tried to 'install' Mint again from USB, during the installation process when you 'connect to a network' to install 3rd party codecs etc. it didn't detect a wifi signal at all.

[Solved] Broke my wifi in BIOS

Hi. I was trying to boot a live USB of Deepin and couldn't get it to work after multiple attempts and using various different USB writing tools. But that now, is besides the point... I figured it was an issue with the BIOS and after changing the settings to enable/disable safe boot, enable/disable E...

Re: [SOLVED] Is it possible to keep all icons and texts solid while adding some transparency to panel?

Cool. I was just playing with Elementary OS and Budgie and wondered if I could have the same panel effect on Mint.

By the way, default seems to be 'with shadow' so the panel isn't actually transparent. Clicking on the tool icon in the extensions menu allows you to select fully transparent, however.

Re: Boot Issues Mint 19 MATE

I can't really help you but I see no-one has replied yet and you could possibly do with a 'bump' :D Is it a BIOS / EUFI settings issue? Are you set to boot from USB? There have been plenty of similar issues like this that have been solved on the forum. Until somebody who knows how to read that code ...

Re: Install Mint Mate over Ubuntu Mate on Window Dual-Boot [solved]

Thanks, that was super easy. What I did was:

1. Boot into windows 7 and delete partition with Ubuntu Mate (took 5 seconds with Windows Disk Manager)
2. Turn off PC.
3. Boot to Mint Mate USB. Here I got the option to install 'alongside windows'.

:D

Install Mint Mate over Ubuntu Mate on Window Dual-Boot [solved]

At the moment I'm running on one machine windows 7 pro alongside Ubuntu Mate but I never use UM because it keeps crashing. Plus, I've decided Mint Mate looks better, runs better in every way etc. So, what I want to do is simply install Mint Mate over Ubuntu Mate. I seem to recall when installing UM ...

Re: Mint-Y theme with different color scheme in MATE?

Funny, I asked myself the exact same question just a few days ago. I don't actually mind the green and I agree with the OP that minty-Y is the best looking theme. It's just from time to time I'd like to be able to switch colours while maintaining a consistent look. I tried the Minty-Y extra light bu...

Re: Posting screenshots problem

I always seem to have permissions problems when I right click an image and choose resize (Nautilus image-converter, I believe) . I don't know how to get permission on my own files :?

Consequently I've been using 'resizeimage.net' to resize images. It's really quick and easy to use.

Posting screenshots problem [Solved]

I've done it before but for some reason I can't seem to post screenshots here anymore. I'm using the same uploader (tinypic) and making sure the images I want to upload are a reasonable size (approx 400-200) but the images won't upload. Has something changed that I need to bear in mind?

Thanks.

This worked a treat for me. I downloaded and unzipped it on Mint and then ran it in windows. Perfect!

I'll just add my experience here anyway just it case it's of any use to the OP... I had similar issues with Mint 18.3 and a Lenovo laptop. In the end I decided to try burning the ISO image to DVD with the help of windows and then install Mint using an portable CD/DVD drive. Worked first time, no is...

Re: What would you do?

Yeah, I was perfectly happy just using just Mint but one client I had recently specifically requested I that use Adobe Reader. That's actually the only reason I went through the hassle of installing a Windows OS and now consider keeping in as a dual boot just in case for the future. I don't intend t...

Re: What would you do?

Thanks both. It turns out both Timeshift and WPS backups were taking up a big chunk (over 15GB!) of space. I'm still curious though whether it makes more sense to run my main working OS off the newer machine and dual boot this with Mate or WIN7. Or stick WIN7 Pro on the older machine and use this al...

What would you do?

Hi all. Here's a little poser that's bothering my non-logical thinking brain and so I thought I'd ask for the wisdom of my fellow Mint-lovers. Firstly, here are my two desktops - and I openly admit these specs do not mean very much to me: Lenovo H50-55 (2 years old, bought new with WIN10 which didn’...
