Re: [SOLVED] Is There A Cinnamon 18.3 Dock?

From my rather limited experience Cairo-dock is a lot more customisable but tends to crash /freeze / become unresponsive more. I've gone back to using Plank.

Re: Add "Desktop Toolbar like windows" on Cinnamon

Maybe something like Slingscold might be worth playing with? I use it in combination with cairo-dock (see left and right bottom corners of screen):

Re: sucks

As a newbie here I can state that yes - my first post went to admin for approval before it appeared anywhere. So maybe it appeared somewhere else or was not approved. Notification of non-approval would be useful in such a situation - and maybe it is, I don't know. One tactic I used to find my post w...

Re: How to search for document content in Mint 18.3

Looks like problem solved! From recoll menu go Help > Missing Helpers There was a number of things listed as missing, speciifically: Perl::Image::ExifTool, antiword, untex, xsltproc I found each of these listed in App Grid, installed them, rebooted Mint and rebuilt index in Recoll. Now it is finding...

Re: How to search for document content in Mint 18.3

Thanks for the link Cosmo but that's all well beyond me...

App Grid tell me Java Common is installed but I've no idea how to check to see whether it's running or not.

Re: How to search for document content in Mint 18.3

This is what my gnome-search-tool looks like. And this is with the 'select more options' open. I can't see any way to access 'advanced options'. I also notice there are no doc/docx files in your pic smurphos which are what I specifically need to search. Note: Tracker is coming up with hits now for t...

Re: How to search for document content in Mint 18.3

I don't know what's going on. I've got Mint 18.3 on a laptop and a desktop and the only positive is that at least they are responding in exactly the same way. Unhelpfully. Docfetcher will not open on either machine after clicking either of the execution files (yes, the linux ones not the windows one...

[Solved] How to search for document content in Mint 18.3

Hi all. I can't seem to search for documents or their contents on Mint. I have Recoll on Ubuntu Mate which works perfectly but on Mint the search only comes up with a couple pdf documents not the docx files. I installed SearchMonkey and the same - even files that I know contain the content words do ...

Re: Where's the default Mint 18.3 wallpaper?

Seems I opened a can of worms... Still, for sure having themes or backgrounds wallpapers somehow attached to / dependent on another application is a bad (unnecessary?) thing. I changed my wallpaper and then uninstalled LO. If you do this the other way round what happens to the themes and background ...

Re: To uninstall LibreOffice

I was a staunch advocate of WPS but I've found the new ribbon style menu with LibreOffice 6 very nice on the Linux / Ubuntu desktop: http://i64.tinypic.com/fp2gqh.png Note: I require track changes a lot for my work so I've added a separate side bar for those functions and added a few extra features ...

Re: Where's the default Mint 18.3 wallpaper?

Thanks all for trying to help. 1. There is no 'linixmint folder' - only Sarah, Serena, Sonya and Sylvia. 2. Yes, I've downloaded the background image and made it my desktop background via the right click route. 3. That issue with mint-x themes was actually my post so uninstalling and re-installing L...

Re: Where's the default Mint 18.3 wallpaper?

Yes, I've got Sarah, Sonya, Serena and Sylvia files and each of them are full of backgrounds all of which I can access through the system settings > backgrounds route - but the one I want (see previous post) is simply not there. I have Mint 18.3 installed on a desktop and a laptop and the desired ba...

Re: Where's the default Mint 18.3 wallpaper?

Thanks for responding xenopeek but it's not there - if it was I guess I'd be able to access it via the system settings > backgrounds GUI.

100% I didn't delete it either. All I did was change the background to one in my pictures file.

Any other ideas?

[Solved] Where's the default Mint 18.3 wallpaper?

Hi all. I changed my desktop wallpaper but today decided I might like to change it back for a while to the one which came when I first installed Mint. But I can't find it anywhere when I follow the route themes > background. I also can't find the resolution I need (1920 x 1080) via Google. The wallp...

Re: How did my cat do this? - SOLVED

It is amazing isn't it how cats manage to trigger the most frustrating of hidden shortcuts.

Once my cat managed to rotate my WIN10 screen 90 degrees and I had to watch a YouTube video with my head on it's side to find out how to turn it back the right way!

Hello all (and registration code?)

Hi all. I've been playing around with Linux / Ubuntu distros recently and found myself using Mint 18.3 as my stable workhorse. I remember trying out Ubuntu years and years ago and was very quickly put off by the launch bar down the left and the strange way of opening application windows and switchin...
