Re: Whats different about debian mint?

When you start using it Debian based distros are far easier to maintain and use than anything based on Ubuntu. If you don't believe that have a look at MX Linux or Antix. I keep getting tempted by MX Linux and each time after a week or so of use something breaks and I end up re-installing Mint Xfce...

Re: Linux Mint 19.2 “Tina” Xfce released!

Just installed it on my second machine over MX Linux 18.3 after it refused to boot after installing nvidia drivers.

No such problem with Mint!

Quicklauncher & terminal start commands

Hi. I'd like to utilise the Quicklauncher app on Mint Xfce 19.1 but am having trouble adding executable icons. As far as I understand I need to put the name of the name of the application I want to launch in the 'nom' column and the terminal command to start the application in the 'commande' column....

The only reason I'll be leaving Mint is because I'll get bored of her stability, which is also the same reason for coming back. I assume that's what happened to you.
Ha, ha. That's me :)

Re: How to remove Cinnamon Mint from Cinnamon/Xfce Mint dual boot / dual drive set-up?

Thanks, I was pretty sure I needed to update grub as well.

I'll aim to do it during a quiet period.

Much appreciated.

This happened to me yesterday, actually. I ran Update Manager (search for it in the menu) twice and it did the job.

Re: How to remove Cinnamon Mint from Cinnamon/Xfce Mint dual boot / dual drive set-up?

Nothing? I figured this would be quite an easy for many experienced users.

How about Ubuntu Boot Repair? I've installed this simply to look at the GUI. Would deleting / formatting the drive with Cinnamon on and then running Boot repair do the job?

[solved] How to remove Cinnamon Mint from Cinnamon/Xfce Mint dual boot / dual drive set-up?

Hi all. I've got 2 internal hard drives in my Lenovo H50-55 desktop: 1 x 1 TB (original) & 1 x 250 GB SSD (added a few months back). On the 1 TB drive is Cinnamon 19.1, on the 250 GB SSD I have Xfce 19.1 - which has replaced Cinnamon as my daily driver. I would now like to remove Cinnamon completely...

Re: [SOLVED] Screen tearing on LM 19 xfce edition

Nah, didn't work. :( Well, at least not as far as I know. When I rebooted it would only boot to terminal, not the desktop. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to use the sudo rm command and get back into my desktop. Ho hum. I really should stop messing around with my main working machine like thi...

Yes, and indeed I've got AMD in my Lenovo H50-55. So that's something completely different again, right? :(

Re: [SOLVED] Screen tearing on LM 19 xfce edition

Hi, pcpunk. Yes, I've seen that. But it's not as decipherable (or rather simply copy & pasteable) as @DAMIEN1307's post. Looking at that, and then looking at this link, would the following two terminal commands do the job? sudo mkdir -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf echo -e 'Section "Device"\n ...

Re: What will be the consequence of uninstalling Thunderbird?

It's a valid question and one I've asked myself - especially since I once uninstalled LibreOffice and it screwed up tons of my icons (and my wallpaper too, if I remember correctly). I actually interpreted the OP's question, therefore, as one of a concern over dependencies. From experience I underst...

Re: Different launchers on different desktops?

Coming back to this... I've recently dumped Plank in favour of a second panel bottom centre. One thing I noticed was that opened apps which show up in the 'Window Buttons' (turn off button labels, for space) DO NOT appear on all desktops. See two screenshots below, taken within seconds of each other...

Re: Screen tearing on LM 19 xfce edition

i know im late to the party here but if your still getting some light screen tearing even after the updates on your 1.66 atom CPU, this works... Open a terminal and run these commands in sequence: sudo mkdir -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d then echo -e 'Section "Device"\n Identifier "Intel Graphics"\n Driv...

Perhaps this could be of use too:

I've just posted about this on another thread but you can choose xfce 4.12 panel option to give you a single-click way of setting up panels as per 'Default xfce'.
