Re: Redshift and geoclue2 [WORKAROUND]

I was able to solve the problem as follows. First, run following comand for creating systemd user unit file. mkdir -p ~/.config/systemd/user/ ; xed ~/.config/systemd/user/geoclue-agent.service Then paste the following lines into the text editor and save file. [Unit] Description=redshift needs to ge...

Re: Redshift and geoclue2 [WORKAROUND]

The workaround didn't work for me - but then I've never changed a config file before so I'm sure I did something wrong or failed to do something I should have. Just to check, I'm supposed to: 1. change the longitude & latitude settings one this: /usr/share/doc/redshift/example-redshift.conf 2. save ...

GIANT shutdown button with Zafiro icons

I spent hours tweaking a fresh install of XFCE today only to discover this really annoying bug when I went to shutdown.

Anyone know of a simple fix for this?

Re: Different launchers on different desktops?

I think using multiple desktops is just not something people really know how to do in terms of it being useful - as well as a case of perhaps not knowing that it even exists. I've always figured it must be an effective way to aid efficiency but never really 'cracked it' so to speak. And I've looked ...

Re: "Icon theme has no cache file"

To Whomever it may help: I am running Linux Mint 17.3 I had multiple icons packs saying there was no icon cache file I tried many times to recreate the icon cache with the many solutions that are out there, none of them worked for me. So I was looking into the the issue and I noticed that the cache...

Re: Installing Xfce themes

The easiest thing to do is go here, download and install the ocs-url app: https://www.opendesktop.org/p/1136805/ *Note: It's also available from Synaptic Package Manager - just search for ocs-url Next time you go to xfce-look.org site you can just click on the 'install' option under the download tab...

Re: The pros of XFCE DE?

Cinnamon - collapsible systray applet..... I don't have any issue hiding all the icons in the notification applet on Mint XFCE? One thing XFCE does better than either Mate or Cinnamon is workspace customisation. Can you tell me how to hide all the notifications in XFCE Mint? There are no options in...

Re: The pros of XFCE DE?

I discovered MX Linux has a cool feature: right click on the notifications area, go to properties - you can hide ALL icons. You then just get a cool little arrow which opens or closes the notification area. One thing that has really bugged me about every distro I've tried is the inconsistent spacing...

The pros of XFCE DE?

After watching a video about MX Linux, downloading it, being super impressed and then downloading and playing with Mint XFCE, I find myself becoming more and more impressed with the XFCE desktop. For example, I just learned how easy it is to have different wallpapers on each virtual desktop - someth...

Mate 19 vs. Cinnamon 19 colours

Hi. I'm trying to install Papirus-Dark-Maia teal on both of my machines - Mate and Cinnamon. I installed the Papirus icon pack from synaptic on both machines and then downloaded the same deb file from github for adding extra colours ( https://launchpad.net/~papirus/+archive/ubuntu/papirus/+packages?...

Re: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() fail

What a coincidence. I had exactly the same problem the other day and found the same solution elsewhere. The command should solve the problem - or at least it did foe me.

Re: Will I break anything if I switch from Cinnamon

Not an ideal solution but in similar cases I've simply dual-booted two linux OSs and gradually (i.e. over a week or two) made the second install behave as I wanted. Once I'd got everything from one OS to the other I delete (or just shrink) the now obsolete OS. At least this way there's very little d...

How to give Google Chrome a themed Scrollbar

One thing that has bugged me for a while is the large scrollbar on Google Chrome and the fact that it doesn't take the themed colour or size. Thanks to a Google Chrome plug-in called Rescroller you can in fact do this. In the image below, Libre Office is on the right, Google Chrome with the extensio...

Nightmare with clean install updates

For some reason I'm having a nightmare today trying to install a clean, working version of Mint 18.3. I've tried both Cinnamon and Mint and despite the installation going smoothly the problems start when I try to update. ALL mirrors are unreachable and/or I'm getting cannot fetch update messages, fa...
