Add Dropbox Folder to Plank and/or Places - Mate 19

I can drag and drop my dropbox folder from home onto Plank Dock but when I click on the folder within there's no response. How do I get it so that I can just click on the folder on Plank and access dropbox folders directly (like I do on my Cinnamon 18 desktop)? I also can't seem to add it to the sid...

Re: Broken Main Menu on Cinnamon 18.3

Well, I'm not sure about the damage to the home folder menu thingy. I created a new user and when I logged into that everything was fine with the menu under that profile. Would that still be possible re. your diagnosis? Anyway, Cinnamon was choking from time to time on this, my work laptop - so I de...

Re: Broken Main Menu on Cinnamon 18.3

Thanks for the response all41 but every new menu I create is exactly the same, and, like the broken menu already present, does not allow me to access the menu editor.

The computer is basically useless as it stands because I can't execute any programs :-/

Broken Main Menu on Cinnamon 18.3

I wanted to 'hide' some of the unused applications on my main menu (Cinnamon 18.3) and after doing so via the 'menu editor' my main menu is now tiny and I'm unable to access any applications even via the search box (see picture attached). I've tried resetting the panel which didn't work and when I c...

Re: The most frustrating thing about Mint

OK, thanks for all the suggestions - certainly some things to try out next time and find the easiest/most efficient method.

I've also installed mkusb and can confirm that yes, the options seems quite comprehensive and clear but I'm yet to test it.

Re: The most frustrating thing about Mint

I think the right click 'make bootable usb' is a Nemo thing...? I've not seen it on other distros either tbh.

Re: The most frustrating thing about Mint

Hmm. OP here. Seems I've opened a right ol' can of worms. Creating a bootable USB is indeed very simple with Mint. Right click on the iso and click 'Make bootable USB'. This works every time for me and is easier, more reliable and faster (in my experience) than using USB Image writer or Unetbootin e...

Re: The most frustrating think about Mint

I have zero regrets about leaving Windows behind. In fact, the only two times I've resorted to Windows since migrating has been to a) format a USB and b) to partition a drive - both of which I find far simpler to accomplish on Windows despite watching YouTube tutorials etc. My point rather is trying...

The most frustrating thing about Mint

OK, I'm sure there are more frustrating things, am I'm not a real newbie (about 10 months now on Mint) but the simplest things sometimes are sooo bloody complicated on Mint (Cinnamon 18.3 before you ask). How do I simply plug in a USB pendrive and format it so that I can copy and paste documents? Ev...

Re: Repository Update Problem - Google Earth <Solved>

Hi. Just had the same issue with Chrome on Mint Cinnamon 19. After removing Chrome from additional repositories, updating cache and running sudo apt update the only entry I have for Google now is under the Authentication keys tab. So now I have the same concern as a previous poster - am I actually g...

Re: [Solved] Broke my wifi in BIOS

Thanks as ever for the useful comments and learning experience. I solved the issue by: 1. resetting BIOS to default settings 2. enabling CSM and changing boot settings to LEGACY only 3. reinstalling the OSs Wifi is working again as it should. I knew from previous experience that UEFI was a right pai...

Re: Broke my wifi in BIOS

Re-installing from scratch is certainly a viable option. Other than the time invested in getting the OSs to look like I want them to them and installing some basics (dropbox, Chrome, etc.) there's nothing else to lose. I've simply been worried that I'd do a fresh install and still have wifi problems.

Re: Broke my wifi in BIOS

go back to BIOS, and turn OFF UEFI, make it Legacy, and then WiFi will work. God, I wish it was that easy. In order to change UEFI settings CSM must be enabled. And then my options are: AUTO / UEFI ONLY / LEGACY ONLY When I choose LEGACY ONLY I can't boot at all and get the message: Media test fail...

I had a very similar issue.

Download from the software manager 'pavucontrol' and open onlinemictest.com in your browswer. The combination of both running at the same time work for me.

Re: Broke my wifi in BIOS

OK. Thanks for the help so far. I did a fresh install of Mint 19 alongside the previous OSs and still no wifi - as I suspected would be the case. When I try to open Driver Manager I just get the message 'Drivers cannot be installed'. The output from inxi -Fxz is: To run a command as administrator (u...
