Could Canonical block access to its repositories?

Hi, I suppose that the distro which derive from Ubuntu, when they do system update, they will be served by servers hosted and paid by Canonical. Is it true? Let's assume that Canonical one day realize that the Ubuntu repositories are mainly used to maintain a dozen of other derived distro. Let's ass...

Re: How to install VLC 2.0 on LM11 Gnome?

Thanks for confirming. I saw the two blog posts you supplied. I was puzzled not to see LM11 or Ubuntu 11.04 in the installation instructions. As the authors didn't give any technical explanation about VLC 2.0 not easily installable on LM11, I was hoping that it was an omission.

How to install VLC 2.0 on LM11 Gnome?

Hi,

VLC 2.0 has been released. But installation instructions are all related to LM 12. Is it intentional that LM 11 cannot auto-update to VLC 2.0? Thanks for any advice.

Rename MGSE to GGMM

Hi, There are a bunch of acronymes ending by E (LXDE, LMDE) the last one MGSE added to the list and somehow for me it is not very evocative. And somehow I have difficulty to remember it. May be it's crazy but here is a name I propose to replace MGSE: G nome G enetically M odified by M int, this make...

Keyring password must be a Gnome bug

Hi, Using LM11 x64. I am quite annoyed as each time I connect to samba shared drive, there is a popup asking for the password of the keyring. I have read the sticky post Why Must I Keep Entering My Password? and this one How can I remove default keyring password? I now know that I just need to delet...

Re: Install PeaZip 4.0 from *.deb, where is application icon

Thanks Vincent for the Clarification.

On Peazip Linux Download page It says "PeaZip for Linux 4.0 GTK2 (recommended)"
Should that imply Gnome integration is better?

Install PeaZip 4.0 from *.deb, where is application icon?

Hi, I installed PeaZip 4.0 DEB for Linux by sudo dpkg -i peazip_4.0.LINUX.GTK2-2_all.deb It seems to install OK as I can right click an archive file and select Open with PeaZip. Software center also reports that PeaZip is already installed. However, I don't see the PeaZip application icon anywhere i...

Re: Nautilus Location Bar: no button and inconsistent behavi

Hi,

Thanks, but I know all of the options you mentioned. What I was referring to was the Location bar (on top of the right pane). Before each folder was a clickable button. Now (since my system update of 2011-09-04) it's a textbox.

Nautilus Location Bar: no button and inconsistent behavior

Hi, Using LM11 x64, system has been updated on 2011-09-04. Since the update, I have noticed that Nautilus location bar has changed its behavior: - The location bar no longer has the path in buttons format. It now contains the text only (/home/...). I used to see the buttons there. To switch the path...

Hi Gentlemen, Thank you for your help. I will try to review the tools you have advised. Gparted's cloning function seems interesting but I am a little lost following Wayne's instructions. Can you please clarify: When gparted completes, just install boot loader to MBR How do you do that? Boot from Li...

[SOLVED] Gnome stop maximize titlebar touches top of screen

Hi, Is this a new feature or a bug? When the Windows is moved, if ever the title bar is closed to the top of the screen then the window is maximized when I released the mouse. How could Gnome could assume that I wanted to maximize the window? Actually most of the time I don't want to. Strangely enou...

Re: LMDE 201108 RC (Gnome & Xfce) released!

Hi,

The download ISO are named:
- linuxmint-201108-xfce-64bit-rc.iso
- linuxmint-201108-gnome-64bit-rc.iso

It is not obvious to distinguish them as LinuxMint Debian. Would it be OK to add LMDE or Debian somewhere in the file name in future releases?

Re: Multi Boot Windows & LM how to proceed?

Hi,

Understood. How about the approach of using Multi-boot using TWO physical hard drives? Is it possible? I would imagine this would be simpler, more room for each OS and total isolation.

Can I install Windows forst on HD#1 and then Install LM and tell it to use HD #2 ?
