Re: Dual Monitor Requirements & Recommendation?

Answer to my own questions after successfully implemented Dual Monitors. I have used the two video heads built-in in the computer. No need to buy extra video card. The Intel GPU X4500 is capable of driving 2 independent monitors. On this computer (Optiplex 960), the trick is to convert the DisplayPo...

Re: Dual Monitor Requirements & Recommendation?

Hi Vincent,

Thank you for the clarification. 3D gaming is not a concern, if the Intel X4500 can do dual monitors then I will probably keep it and hope that a DisplayPort to DVI cable will be working OK.

Re: Why eth2 but no eth1 and eth0 ?

[quote="trollboy"Ultimately though, does it matter as long as things are working?[/quote]

Yes and No. Of course it works OK without changing anything. And I didn't even notice this detail until recently. However, it's good to know why things work.

Why eth2 but no eth1 and eth0 ?

Hi, I did a fresh install of LM 11 x64 about 2 months ago. I don't remember messing up anything in the network configuration. When reviweing the network configuration, I notice I have eth2 and lo . For example by typing ifconfig in the terminal. Question1: What is the reason for the system to choose...

Re: How to start samba server automatically

Hi Vincent, Thank you for your detailed help. initctl status smbd returns smbd start/running, process 957 If I test samba drives by smbclient -L localhost -U% , then I see the shares resources listed correctly. Then I run the same smbclient test (either on my own machine or from another Linux machin...

Re: Command Line how to ls and rm recursive ?

Hi,

Thanks for your help. The find syntaxes work perfectly.

However ls -al *.mp3 -R is not working. It can only display the files in the current folder. May be this is a bug. I can't believe with that much maturity of the Bash shell, ls cannot yet list recursively the content of a directory.

Re: MintMenu: howto put more items in Favorite list?

To do so, launch gconf-editor (Alt-F2 to bring up the Run dialog, then type 'gconf-editor' (without the quotes)), expand the apps folder, scroll down until you see mintMenu, expand that, expand plugins, then select applications. In the keys list in the right window pane, look for fav_cols and favic...

Followed your guide, Right Click Menu / Preferences / Favorites tab. Changed # column to 4 and Icon size to 32. Nothing happened. All the values ...

MintMenu: howto put more items in Favorite list?

Hi,

Using LM11 x64. I would like to have more items in the favorite list. Either by reducing the icon size or better yet by just displaying the icon without the text beside it. Can you please show me how to do that?

Thanks in advance.

When testing Ubuntu 11.04, I can still learn to accommodate the overlay scrollbar. What I cannot really stand is the Global Menu. I hope there is not this stupid Global Menu in LinuxMint 11.

LinuxMint 11, be aware Screensavers freezes

Hi, I am testing Ubuntu 11.04. The screen freezes after screensaver (set to random) runs for about 15 minutes. Graphics chip is Intel x4500. So far I got this on the screensavers named AntSpotlight and GLSchool. I guess the issue will occur regardless of of the screensaver. I thought it was my hardw...
