NVIDIA drivers - necessary?

With every how-to post I read for installing Linux one of the first things to do once the initial install is finished is to install NVIDIA/ATI drivers if you have those graphics adapters in your system. What is the down side of not installing the proprietary drivers and keeping the default drivers l...

Re: I can't delete old entries

There are plenty of .desktop files in the /usr/share/applications directory, but none of them are for MS Office. I tried the reload plug-ins options for the heck of it and that didn't change anything. Here's the directory listing: /usr/share/applications $ ls alacarte.desktop apport-gtk-mime.desktop...

Re: Trying to uninstall Office 2000 [Solved - pretty much]

Was able to delete Office 2000 manually, but mintMenu didn't update properly. Have updated a post in the mintMenu forum. Thanks for the help !

Re: I can't delete old entries

I'd like to resurrect this post since I am having the same problem, but with V7. I had to manually uninstall Office 2000 because the uninstaller didn't work under Wine. I can deselect the Office menu items in mintMenu so they don't display, but I can't deleted them from it.

Trying to uninstall Office 2000 [Solved - pretty much]

Well, I installed Office 2000 with Wine (Gloria OS) and found out I didn't really need to. I got around what I thought was a compatibility issue with OpenOffice. Now when I try to uninstall Office 2000, the files are not deleted. I ran wine "d:\setup.exe" from the CLI and the installer launches fine...

Migrating from Kubuntu 8.04

As soon as the final release of Gloria is available I intend to install it on a PC currently running Kubuntu 8.04. I have a separate "/home" partition and I will definitely backup it up before the install. I was wondering if I wipe the "/" partition and install Mint using the same hostname and ID/pa...
