Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - August 2012

d00med,

Are you sure? The OMG suite is a monochrome theme. The one in your screen shot is not.

Hey d00med,

Great theme! Which one is it?

Re: How to edit the default Favorites in the Main menu?

Yes I have. I just want to remove irc chat and the software manager. Right-clicking either one does nothing.

How to edit the default Favorites in the Main menu? [SOLVED]

I'd like to remove a couple of icons from the Favorites bar of the Main Menu of Maya Cinnamon. Alacarte does not display them and right-clicking on them does not bring up a menu. So how do I delete them?

Re: Mint Maya 64-bit NVIDIA Issues [SOLVED]

Well, it only took 4 evenings, but I got Maya 64-bit working the way it should. For any of you with similar problems, here are the steps I took: - Booted the live CD in Compatibility Mode, and installed the OS. - Upon reboot the system booted into the CLI. I logged in with the ID I created, then I l...

Re: Mint Maya 64-bit NVIDIA Issues

Anyone have any ideas on this one? Maya is runing great on my crusty old Compaq C500 (with Intel graphics, btw), but not on my newer Presario SR5701F tower. Al I need it to be able to run the sgfxi script in a CLI session, and (hopefully) I'll be good to go.

Re: Mint Maya 64-bit NVIDIA Issues

Tried both grub edits you suggested. The 'text ' change must be working because the screen stays blank after boot. The OS simply will not display in text mode.

Re: Mint Maya 64-bit NVIDIA Issues

Thank you, viking777. I have seen that solution in my searches, but I do not get the grub menu when I boot the PC. The screen is blank until I get to the login screen (MDM). I think it is related to the same problem I have trying to switch to an alternate console after logging in - Mint will not dis...

Re: Mint Maya 64-bit NVIDIA Issues

I'm trying to get the latest drivers (not necessarily betas) to work on the system. I tried using the additional drivers option from the control center, but that just made things worse. I got nothing displayed on-screen instead of 1024x768 resolution. I'll check out the sgfx scripts. Thaks for the d...

Mint Maya 64-bit NVIDIA Issues [SOLVED]

I'm trying to get NVIDIA issues sorted out on my new install of Mint 13 Cinnamom. I can get to the desktop logging in with a classic Gnome environment with 1024x768 resolution. I have found several fixes I can try to get updated NVDIA drivers (which I've downloaded) working by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Fn t...

Favorite weather app for Maya (Cinnamon)?

My favorite used to be touchthesky, an Opera widget, but with the 12.0 update Opera has discontinued Widgets so I'm out of luck. The Weather Channel, Accu-weather, and Weather Bug do not offer Linux versions of their apps. I don't like the weather screenlet or desklet, and the new panel app for Maya...

Re: Which email provider to switch to?

Well, I never thought of it that way! But like I mentioned before, there is an attachment loss issue with Hotmail. I've gotten several messages, even from other Hotmail users, with missing attachments, although I haven't had that problem in a while so maybe they are getting better. The reason ...

Which email provider to switch to?

I've always used my ISP's email address as my primary email. I will be moving at the end of the summer, outside my ISP's coverage area, so I will lose that address. I've been using Hotmail for years as a secondary address, but the rest of my family will need new addresses, and I'm not sure I want to...

Re: Ethernet speed took a nose dive

Another update:

Windows browsing is now slow too. I guess I will have to contact my ISP. I'm sure they will be very helpful.

I still would like to know what protocol mintUpdate/synaptic uses to download updates. They come down nice and fast.

Re: Ethernet speed took a nose dive

IPv6 is disabled. I'd be willing to try OpenDNS, but if it were a DNS problem wouldn't Windows be slow too? Both Os's get their DNS from the same source. Where are the files to check located? Don't know the guts of Linux that well. UPDATE: Went to www.speedtest.net to test both connections. Here are...

Ethernet speed took a nose dive

Running Isadora 64-bit Gnome in a dual boot config with Windows Vista. For the last week Web browsing in Mint has slowed to a crawl. I'm lucky if I get 24Kbps throughput on any web site. I think it may only be http though. mintUpdate file downloads transfer at normal speeds (300-500Kbps). Does mintU...

Time change not not taking effect

Hi, Running Isadora Main (GNOME) 32-bit. This weekend's time change has not occurred on my machine. Checked Time and Date settings in Control Center. They are set up to get the time from the Internet, using the standard Ubuntu time server and the server from Penn State. System clock is still an hour...
