Re: USB Flash drive not mounting

I installed palimpsest. Again, the device does not show up. This is crazy. It used to work fine. :(

Re: USB Flash drive not mounting

I'm afraid I have to resurrect this post. My system is not auto-mounting USB storage devices again. The situation is exactly the same as outlined in the first post: lsusb and dmesg both list the device as attached, but I cannot determine what the device name I would use to mount it manually (sda, sd...

Re: Forum search is far out...

Your search is too generic. Try adding something more specific, like the model number of your adapter or an error message or condition.

Re: Cannot disable icon in notification area

I searched previous posts and discovered Boot-up Manager (bum), and installed it. It didn't list anything recognizable as Universal Access Preferences or Visual assistance so there was nothing to disable. Same for Ubuntu Tweak.

Is there a .conf file or something that can be easily edited manually?

Re: Cannot disable icon in notification area

Clicking on the icon gives you the list of Universal Access Preferences to enable - the same as the icon in the notification area after login - but no option to disable the service itself.

Cannot disable icon in notification area [SOLVED]

I'm running Isadora. As soon as I launched the following command: gksudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties to change the background for the login screen, two icons for Universal Access Preferences (the guy in the wheelchair icon) appeared in the notification area. After a reboot there w...

Re: USB Flash drive not mounting

Elisa,

Well, installing pysdm must have forced something to work. I installed it, but before I ran it I inserted a USB flash drive into my laptop and the system mounted it automatically! Everything works fine now. :D I hope it stays that way. Thanks.

USB Flash drive not mounting

I have a Kingston 2GB flash drive that used to mount fine in Isadora 32-bit. Now it (or any other USB storage device) cannot be mounted if it's not connected to the PC at boot. Gparted does not show it as an available device, nor does fstab. lsusb displays it however: Bus 005 Device 002: ID 046d:c01...

Frustrated with NVIDIA drivers!

This isn't a request for assistance (although I'll try any suggestions you might have), but rather a minor rant. On two different machines with two different versions of Mint I've had the same problem. I install the recommended NVIDIA drivers, and everything works fine for a month or two, and then o...

Re: No gdm in Isadora [SOLVED]

Well, all of the suggestions I found in these forums did not help me. I was about to disable the NVIDIA drivers when I realized I wasn't using the latest version of them. I was using version 173 because the most recent (and recommended) version that was listed during setup would not download. I was ...

Oh and one more thing. I'm using the Nvidia drivers. Does that change anything? Should I deactivate them and start from there?

No gdm in Isadora [SOLVED]

I'm sure this problem has been raised and solved before, but None of the searches I've done yielded a solution. I installed Isadora 64-bit on my desktop last weekend with a dual boot with Vista on a separate drive. All was well until the middle of this week when grub would load normally, but wouldn'...

GMount-iso unavailable?

I did a search for gmountiso on all the available package directories on Debian.org and couldn't find it. It also isn't in the default repos for LMDE. Can I install it from another repo? And while I'm asking, if I want to install an app that asks which version of Debian I'm using should I specify Sq...

Re: Installing additional desktop environments...

I have limited experience with multiple DE's but you shouldn't have any problems doing it. Keep in mind that your menus will not be unique to each DE. ALL apps of BOTH DE's will appear in the menus on both DE's, i.e. your LXDE apps would appear along side your GNOME apps and vice versa. And yes you ...

Method for reinstalling Linux

Hey Folks, This article: http://www.sutor.com/c/2010/07/installing-and-reinstalling-linux-on-your-desktop/ discussed reinstalling Linux. A reply from a poster call TheGZeus offered this as a simpler method: rsync -av /home /media/usbhardddrive cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/preferences /media/usb...

Re: What are the pros and cons of Mint64?

Hey Gara3987, the article you read was published in 2006 and updated in 2008, with the update saying that he'd say to use either one. The stability, support and apps have caught up, but he still asserts that the performance of the two is still pretty much equal. I wonder how much as progressed in th...
