Re: mintinstall

You didn't say what you did to break it. Installed some third party python packages? What's the output of:

Code: Select all

which python3
apt contains $(python3 -c "import enum;print(enum.__file__)")

Re: [SOLVED] Linux mint 19.3 kernel upgrade fails multiple times

Now, do you happen to know why my touchscreen crashes LM ? The one in my post called "Sometimes touchscreen tap crashes xfce - only on LM19.3" You would have to look at the crash report to answer that exactly but usually it'll be a driver issue. Touchscreens on Linux can be hit or miss unfortunatel...

Re: mintinstall

You broke your system's Python interpreter, at least your enum module does not match the interpreter. Revert to your last system snapshot, or otherwise tell us inxi -Fxz and what you did to break it.

Re: [SOLVED] Linux mint 19.3 kernel upgrade fails multiple times

Oh, I'm sure it is, I've seen it time and time again on this forum, that's why that blind guess was easy to do. It's the only software I know that creates that issue.

Re: [SOLVED] Linux mint 19.3 kernel upgrade fails multiple times

Is it wiser to disable it during upgrades and then re-enable it , or remove it completely? I have never looked at the software, but considering it breaks kernel updates it makes you wonder what else is wrong with it, right? I cannot recommend another one - I'm not using anti-virus software myself, ...

Re: Mint hides file extensions??

If they have the executable bit set they display as the Name of the launcher with the icon defined in the desktop file. If they don't have the executable bit set the file name is displayed as normal with a default icon. That only applies to Type=Application desktop files, which are considered untru...

Re: [SOLVED] Linux mint 19.3 kernel upgrade fails multiple times

I'll just take a blind guess and say you're using Sophos Anti-Virus. The solution is to disable/remove that broken piece of software.

Are we 100% sure there is no such conflict here ?
Without having look at this in any detail I feel very confident to confirm that. They are not even using the same GUI framework.

Re: update manager bug?

Sounds like your installation did not complete because of the GRUB installation failure, and because of that the installation medium (the CD-ROM entry) that the system was being installed from had not yet been removed from the configuration. A successfully installed system does not have this problem...

Re: How to stop hid_field_extract() noise in the log files

Are you suggesting that I upgrade the kernel to a version above the one that come with Linux Mint 19.3 (5.0.0)? If so which version of the Kernel would be appropriate for 19.3 LTS? On the other hand, I apply updates all the time via "sudo apt update/upgrade" I most certainly do, because the kernel ...

Re: Icons location on disk

Thank you guys. There is no pixmaps on the left side for some reason. Ah, seems Cinnamon has its own dialog there. You can also copy them into /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/places and then run sudo gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/hicolor You should be able to find and search for them in ...

To find it in the dialog you need to switch to pixmaps on the left hand side.

doesn't the IP redirecting happen outside of the game?
lets say when im browsing/ banking etc.?

for example if firefox or any software used the alias
code_server
code.local.host

my info automatically gets sent to 83.222.105.238?
Yes. But these aren't addresses you would normally use.

Another case when the use of Compiz might be needed is to do without screen tearing in XFCE.
Alternatively, Compton handles that properly as well.

Re: What happens if I run system-update while timeshift snapshot running?

Now I am confused.... Tony George says that there is the possibility of inconsistent snapshots, but from the link here: http://www.mikerubel.org/computers/rsync_snapshots/ which analyzes rsync's behavior, there is different info: No, it's not different, it's both correct. Say an application consist...

Re: [solved] mintupdate as stand alone install

the gui linux system management tools of mint have always been why I keep using mint. Now I can have them everywhere! Just be aware that while I forked them from Mint's tools, they're actually very different from them in many aspects now. If you want genuine Mint then you've got the wrong PPA. ;) a...

If you want to blow your speakers, mpv can go up to 1000%. ;)

Re: Celluloid: vetted/tested ?

Glad to see that I am not alone. I didn't go back to vlc, I've always been using mpv, but I would never use Celluloid, it's just a severely feature limited version of mpv. Case in point: Finally, I've found a script that shows video properties. Celluloid needs a script for that? That's just mpv's d...
