Re: file/dir dates from BEFORE I installed?

Thanks. In retrospect, mtime makes more sense. "...I assume that ls returns a default of atime..." That turns out not to be the case man ls "...instead of default modification time..." Heh. Yeah, I read that part of the man differently, as "instead of default modification time: atime..." the inferen...

Re: (SOLVED!) How to correct date format in Mint Mate English version?

Thanks for this, Helmut! I'm an Aussie and while it didn't bother me as much, seeing your fix I thought "why not?" And promptly discovered that in CP/Languages both English, UK and English, Australia were incompletely loaded. Every other variant of English was fine except for those two. WTH? A quick...

Re: Installing the Krita application

Try this: RMB on Menu icon and select 'configure,' on the GUI that pops up select 'Menu' tab and 'Open the menu editor.' See if you can find an entry in there (likely either under Office or Graphics submenu) that is disabled. If so, enable it and see what happens. (Alternatively, from a terminal you...

Why are these dmraid related files on my HDD? [Solved]

LM 18.3 Cinnamon x64 When I first installed Linux (over an ex-Win install) I didn't disable BIOS RAID and, of course, dmraid was installed as part of the OS. Realising this, I disabled RAID in the BIOS and switched to mdadm instead. I thought I'd done this by simply doing a fresh install over the ex...

Re: sudo/su on account with no password.

Huh. Even though using su now requests the correct pw, they still have access to the sudo cmd. Can't do anything with it, it won't accept a blank pw, but it's still callable. Or an I wrong in my assumption that it's only available to members of sudo group? One would think that permissions would be c...

Re: Icon: Red circle with line through next to drive name

I may be a newb, but I've seen that icon being used as a place-holder for items when the OS can't determine what icon is appropriate.

So I'd have a closer look at the drives' properties and how it is mounted.

sudo/su on account with no password.

LM18.3 cinnamon x64 OK, one of the users on our LAN has changed their login details to log in automatically and no password. Fine, I don't like it, but I won't force passwords on these users. It's a family thing and I'm trying to convert our LAN from Win to predominantly Linux. They ain't happy abou...

Re: Possible to automate data DLs during offpeak periods?

Thanks fellas, now I know how to move in the right direction. I've installed XDM to give the GUI-deprived members of the household something to play with; the provided install info was a tad outdated (a 2015 version) but it got the ball rolling. In the meantime I'll try fiddling with a few of the ot...

Possible to automate data DLs during offpeak periods? [SOLVED]

Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon X64 As we live in the outback, all comms are satellite. The best deal we can get gives gives me 60GB/month peak & 190GB/month off-peak. (Offpeak is only 1AM-5AM daily.) Being our main form of entertainment, 60GB blows through very fast. Kids. :( Naturally, I'd like to move a...
