Re: Writing data to USB Drive

Do you have any other flash drive to test, because this is not normal at all. ATM I am trying on 16GB Kyngstone USB 3.0 and 64GB Kyngstone 3.0 drives and both act the same way Some on other forums say that data first gets cached in RAM Memory (depending on RAM size) and I have 32GB of RAM and very ...

Re: Writing data to USB Drive

You could try exFAT. It's what I use and so much prefer over NTFS.

Re: Writing data to USB Drive

I have problems writing the data to my USB drives. Last night I downloaded the movie, copied it to the USB, progress bar finished, plugged out USB. Went down to plug it to the TV, prepared popcorns, drinks, layed in bed. Tried to play movie but it says error. Then I investigated. I found out that i...

I didn't get anymore freezes. However, I now have a warning message telling me /boot is full.

Then, when I click examine, I get Error opening directory '/boot/lost+found': Permission denied
Try

Code: Select all

sudo du /boot -h

Re: Evaporating dialogue box?

The only way Timeshift would have a copy of your data is if it was specifically configured to do that type of snapshot. That said, I don't think you can recover your precious files. I just cannot believe people don't have backup copies of their data. It's like driving into the wilderness without a s...

Re: Proof of clean install vs Beta upgade to final

You could check the installation date:

Code: Select all

sudo ls -alct /|tail -1|awk '{print $6, $7, $8}'
Also using the Update Manager, View, History of updates. If the first ones proceeded June 25 (before stable was released)

I never needed to do that. Guess I overlooked it.

Re: Linux Mint 20 brother MFC-490CW Scanner Not Found

The file you needed is: Driver install tool. That file is the linux-brprinter-installer for deb. See pic
You can mark solved using the tip in my signature, but I'm unclear if you ran the installer via the instructions?

Re: Timeshift not working in Mint 20 <solved with a reboot>

It may have been

Code: Select all

sudo chown -Rc $USER:$USER $HOME
I wish I could of seen the output of that command. It should be clean like

Code: Select all

lance@LM:~$ sudo chown -Rc $USER:$USER $HOME
lance@LM:~$
If there was extended output it was "fixing" specific ownership items

Re: Timeshift not working in Mint 20

What about

Code: Select all

sudo pkexec timeshift-gtk
Reinstalling Mint might be the answer, but there may be other options. When you installed, did you choose a typical password without special characters?

Re: Timeshift not working in Mint 20

Try

Code: Select all

sudo timeshift
Also see if you can open anything that requires your password. Like Synaptic Package Manager.
