2 questions about Cinnamon DE

1. Is it possible to update only Cinnamon to a newer version and remain with 18.3? If "yes", how? 2. When I opened Synaptic and typed "cinnamon" in the search box, I noticed there's a package named "cinnamon-desktop-environment" and it isn't installed. According to its description it's a "full deskt...

Re: How to enable hibernation with swap partion on Linux Mint 19

Nah, I don't close anything. Just suspend it to RAM. Takes 2 seconds to powerdown/wake up.

Re: Mailspring icon in system tray not showing

For the time I tried that mail client I had this bug too - M18.3. I think it's the program's icon that's bugged. Restarting the DE didn't change anything, so I'm pretty sure it's a mailspring problem. P.S. "Tray" is a Windows term. Some people call that area "status panel", others call it "launcher ...

Re: Are the Mint team aware of this?

why is it too difficult to tell the OP where you've shifted it? I'm not a rich man and cannot afford a brand new computer every year to keep up with ever more resource-hungry Linux distros that you lot produce. Why is it too difficult for the OP to click once on his name in the upper right corner a...

Re: Going back to LM 18.3

I ran LM 19 cinnamon version for about a week. Didn't have any problems other than it was slow to boot, and a lot of things just seemed to run slower to me. Granted, I didn't time them and do a comparison, but I decided to go back to LM 18.3 today. The install was easy, and I was able to restore my...

Re: Possible bug with USB 3.0 driver in 18.3 and 19

No typo. In Windows environment (Windows 7) the same flash drives had the same speed (their normal transfer speed) when attached to the 3.0 port. And just because 3.0 is 10 times faster than 2.0, that doesn't mean the hardware will operate at that speed. It just means it supports 10 times faster spe...

Possible bug with USB 3.0 driver in 18.3 and 19

I installed 19 on my sister's PC and I remained with 18.3 on mine (I wanted to see how 19 will perform before I put it on my PC). In all that time there was a problem with flash drives - uploading files to them was happening at speeds like 150 megabytes per second and above which is impossible for t...

Re: Uneven sound levels on movies - partial fix I found

Idk why it affects it either but you heard it for yourself. Report it, if you wish. The last time I reported an obvious bug with SMPlayer on their forum (a bug with subs and the black horizontal lines you can enable in options - the subs were standing in the middle of the screen, instead of going be...

Re: Sound in Firefox stops, then busybox appears after reboot.

Why do you stay with pulseaudio? As much as I like Linux, that PA driver is pure crap. Go to Synaptic, type ALSA and install alsa-base (along with the packages that Synaptic will autoselect) plus libasound2-plugins-extra, choose the ALSA device as your default device and try again. I'm almost sure y...

Uneven sound levels on movies - partial fix I found

I'm posting this topic for people who suffer uneven sound levels when they're watching movies. Ever since I'm using Linux there was this problem with the sound levels on movies - when the characters speak too quiet or even whisper, the sound goes lower and lower to the point you can't hear anything ...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

I don't see how having a GUI tool like autodeb would be getting in the way of your productivity. The latter could be hindered by the fact that some software developers are too lazy to make their program in deb installer and you have to waste time to Google for "[programname] deb" and hope for the be...

Re: Weak wifi signal if not right next to router on my Lenovo laptop

the problem is with mint. It's possible but I doubt that. My best friend a linux guru and he installed on his smartphone the same Mint 18.3 I'm using on my Desktop PC. He caught my home network signal from 22 meters away - only to prove me wrong cuz I told him it's possible the Linux drivers ...

How to: add a shortcut to a playlist on the desktop

Some of you probably know this already but I'm posting it for those who don't and who prefer a quick and easy way to launch a playlist without navigating through directories. I was asked several times how come I have an online radio on my desktop, so I figured it would be better if I just wrote this...

That's because you don't read the same forums as those I do. 90% of the questions they ask about Windows are because they didn't read some instruction.

Re: Weak wifi signal if not right next to router on my Lenovo laptop

Well, if it is already set to the highest power and you still have weak signal, then the router is crap and you either need to buy a normal TP-LINK like mine - model number is on the screenshot (they're not expensive, like 25-35 euro in my country), OR you must buy signal extender by Huawei and conn...

Re: Why oh Why can't we make Linux better looking

Looks like you replied to it but did not read it... No. When you don't like what's in the repo, you can find and download another icon theme , which you can then use to replace all your icons in one go. Not manually one by one. Oh, I read it. And while this can be done for Mint, it's not the same w...
