Re: Changing Grub Default Boot

Why don't you try grub-customizer? It's a GUI program to edit grub and you can easily choose which OS you want as default. I'm with 18.3 as well (dual boot with Windows) and grub-customizer has helped me a lot. You can get it from Synaptic. But you should know it only works for legacy grub. For grub...

Re: [How To] Integrate Firefox with dark themes

You need to close and reopen Firefox for the change to take effect. Are you sure you haven't got Adwaita? It's the reference GTK theme and included as a default package in Mint 18.x and 19. I know I have to restart Firefox. It turns out I do have Adwaita, I was just looking at the wrong place. :) B...

I use BitWarden for the browser. I've disabled the keyrings cuz they're a very annoying feature.

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

My dad is a tech savage. He loves the "Windows XP" computer I got for him (I do not tell him it is running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon). He just want the computer to boot, load the o/s, allow him to surf the net, play solitare, watch YouTube golf videos, and email. That is all he wants. He w...

The point releases have the fixes.
So, if they release 19.3 and I upgrade my current install, I'll have 19.3, not 19.0?

Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure

Mint 19 MATE didn't work out very well on my system. It might have been because I didn't restrict the updates enough and the troublesome .24 kernel got installed. Soooooooo...I just did a fresh install of Mint 19 Cinnamon using the v2 .iso and installed wine stable on it as I did on my previous MAT...

Re: [SOLVED] Have conky autorun at startup with specific setting

I have several resident conky.rc files in my ~/.conky directory for different display positions and for use with different backgrounds. If I want different positions or colors for different backgrounds, all I have to do is to edit the file Process Panel. I've already set some custom colors there, s...

Re: [SOLVED] Have conky autorun at startup with specific setting

That didn't work. The only way to have it the way I wanted was to leave only the directory /home/username/.conky/TeejeeTech with only Process Panel files in it and delete everything else, so that when conky autostarts, the only widget it can find and start is the one I want.

Re: [How To] Integrate Firefox with dark themes

1) Amend your Firefox launchers and desktop entries so they are always using a light theme - e.g Exec=env GTK_THEME=Adwaita firefox Or 2) In Firefox visit about:config , right click, select new, select string, input widget.content.gtk-theme-override and then input Adwaita Can't be doing with that? ...

[SOLVED] Have conky autorun at startup with specific setting

I had set up conky to show what I want but now I don't know how to set it up to autostart with the system with the settings I made. I tried adding conky to autostarting programs but it shows something completely different than what I want. I've downloaded a conky gui manager but it has no autostart ...

Re: Add Windows10 to GRUB without Boot Partition

UEFI Win 10 needs the EFI System(Boot) Partition(= fat32/104MB/boot.esp) to boot. It doesn't. That's a lie spread by Microcrap. There's an easy way to trick it and it will install and run normally, just like any older Windows. I've done that myself more than enough times with Windows 10. All one ne...

Re: cinnamon vs (customized) xfce

I tried Cinnamon on my computer and was using around 20% CPU and 700-750 MB of RAM Your computer must be an ancient one. This is the current CPU usage of Cinnamon on Mint 18.3 with these programs running: Firefox 61.0.1, Nemo, Audacious, applet called "Restart Cinnamon" and the DE itself....

Re: Pinta crashes in Mint 19 Cinnamon

You two are lucky you managed to install it in the first place. One of the many reasons I abandoned 19 and went back to 18.3 was that I was unable to install Pinta - console installation returned tons of errors, installation through Synaptic failed miserably and installing it from a deb package went...

Re: Some Packages Don't Get Marked on "Complete Removal"

several guides warn against the use of bleachbit. they say it may remove more than it's supposed to, causing system problems. First of all: never use cleaning applications like BleachBit! Those software wrecking balls are very risky and may damage your system beyond repair. I don't care about that....

Sorry but no.
I said "as far as I know". :) So thanks for the info.
So, if autoremove removes the dependencies, does that mean the autoremove of bleachbit will do the same? Just curious cuz I mostly use bleachbit to clean the system of unused packages.

Re: Mint Software Manager

Do I need Mint Software Manager? Based on my own experience I'd say "no". I have it pinned to the panel but I haven't used it at all in the last 30 days, so maybe I should remove it. Mostly because it always installs outdated versions of the programs I need which is why I prefer to search...
