Re: Cinnamon Tweaks Screen Tearing VSYNC NVIDIA

The main culprit right now seems to be the new FF 64.0 or may be the plugin it uses (openH.264 ). And i have to qualify this by saying I am no expert. I just wanted to share with you my experience with it so far, and it is kind of frustrating bec. not too many people are talking about it and/or it ...

Re: Cinnamon Tweaks Screen Tearing VSYNC NVIDIA

Before I updated to Cinnamon 19.1 something changed in Firefox 64. I started experiencing video stuttering in Youtube videos despite all these tweaks. Firefox 63.0.3 ran great. This is something to consider when applying these tweaks.

If I get Firefox 64 working great I'll post here what I changed.

How can I replace a motherboard with secure boot enabled?

My motherboard has secure boot enabled. Can I invoke the procedure for generating secure boot keys after I replace my motherboard? I'm hoping to avoid installing Mint from scratch so that I can use the same hard drive. If I can keep my current install it would be preferred as I have Mint configured ...

Re: How to Repair Timeshift?

Re-installing was my first thought but I wanted to keep my snapshots. I figured asking here first couldn't hurt.

[SOLVED] How to Repair Timeshift?

My Timeshift stopped working. I click on it, get a password prompt and then nothing. I made a snapshot successfully, closed Timeshit, then It took longer than usual to log out. That's when it stopped working. I'm running a fully updated Mint 19 Cinnamon. Is there a proper way of repairing Timeshift?...

Re: File Sharing Services

What makes me nervous about this connection is that my fully updated Firefox failed to close completely after visiting Youtube on two occasions, I closed it's window but it's process was stuck on 12% cpu usage. I had to end the process manually. I brushed it off as a lucky coin miner but then hours ...

File Sharing Services

My Mint install doesn't have Samba installed that I'm aware but I was puzzled how my machine was able to make a random SMB connection the other day. This connection was made by a process named GVFS or GVFSD it was UDP and SMB. From all the horrible things I've heard about SMB I thought I didn't have...

Re: Disable Networking Protocols

I was pretty frustrated with my previous OS when I learned services I didn't need like SMB and Netbios were on by default and worse were being used to log into computers without users knowing. I was hoping to avoid a similar situation on Mint. I'll be wording my questions more carefully, I appreciat...

Re: Disable Networking Protocols

I apparently know nothing. lol I'm looking to turn off services similar to SMB and leave only ipv4 working. Hopefully that's more clearly worded. How can I disable networking protocols? The ones I'm aware of are Samba and SSH. Are there ports I need to look out for? Run this for an overview of your ...

Re: Disable Networking Protocols

The firewall was the first thing I turned on. I was hoping to disable any networking services entirely. All I need is an internet connection but no networking of any kind.

Disable Networking Protocols

How can I disable networking protocols? The ones I'm aware of are Samba and SSH. Are there ports I need to look out for? I'm trying to keep someone from port scanning my pc and logging in through some networking tech I'm not aware of. I found a similar topic but it's from 2014 so I decided to start ...

Re: Active Connections Not Showing

I think I stumbled on Netactview at one time and came to the same conclusion that it wouldn't work in Mint. I hope someone makes a tcpview equivalent one day these kinds of utilities are important for folks coming from Windows. I put off adopting Linux Mint for a good while because I would search an...

Re: Active Connections Not Showing

Right of course https will show as 443. I block port 80 yet this still slipped my mind. I guess having other numbers attached to 443 threw me off. I do find it odd that there isn't an equivalent utility to tcpview.

Re: Active Connections Not Showing

I appreciate the info and your patience for my unfamiliarity with Mint. If I understand correctly I would need to be root to see connections from the update manager? Can Netstat show Https or Http?

Active Connections Not Showing

I use this command "watch -d -n1 lsof -i" to see active connections to my pc I have one problem with this, it doesn't show which connections are made when I'm using the Update Manager and I'm concerned about this. I wonder if I might be missing other connections made to my computer because I'm not a...
