Re: Can't install kubuntu-desktop on Mint 19.1 XFCE

installing a second desktop through any software / package manager is asking for trouble. i'm normally a huge fan of avoiding terminal if i can, but where desktops are concerned it's terminal for me. i've tested kde two ways nonterminal and both were missing a lot. no point having the shell if you'r...

As of hours ago (2019-01-17), it's now been updated to its Fifth Edition.
This is one of the rare instances where reviving an ancient thread is a Good Thing. :D

Thanks for the update.

yes. any usb device with a file system on it has the potential of infecting a pc. from what you said it's more likely that there something on the pc simply broke.

Re: Removing window-list also removes Grouped-Window-List

A thank you note to smurphos . Two new users on Stack Exchange were asking about the "new launcher here" bug. Using and referencing your posts I was able to affirm that the problem was known and was being fixed. Also recommended that in the future, they should look on Linux Mint Forums. Tried the p...

Re: Are there any negative conquences to charging cell phone via computer USB port(s) ?

rather usb 2.0 or later most phones have a fast and slow charge. with mine if it's at 78% or higher it slow charges and below 78% fast charges. does not matter if it's plugged into the wall or the tower cause the phone regulates the power input. the only real benifit of usb 3.0 and newer is faster f...

Re: 19.1 Bug? nemo launcher fails from desktop confext menu and from command line

not to be rude but couldn't have been an announcement made about something as big as this being broken? so in the meantime how are we suppose to create launchers / shortcuts? see my note above. right click on any launcher in panel and click +add. You'll at least get a new launcher in the panel whic...

Re: 19.1 Bug? nemo launcher fails from desktop confext menu and from command line

It's a bug - https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/8275 - already fixed in the source, but no update issued yet. You can apply the fix in advance of the update via the instructions in this post - https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1578018#p1578018 I know that post is out of context...

Re: (SOLVED) Software For Converting MP3's To AAC's

know thisw has been marked Solved but I have to add a couple of points. Frst, SoundKonverter is not better than soundconverter. Second, you simply cannot re encode from one lossy format to another with no loss in quality. WHoever told you that had no idea what he or she was talking about. dude conv...

Re: (SOLVED) Software For Converting MP3's To AAC's

FYI, WinFF is not just for videos. It uses ffmpeg, therefore you can use it for virtually any media format including aac. You just need to edit the command and save the profile. I use WinFF all the time for many types of media format conversions, it's very fast and great quality. i'm happy with sou...

Re: loss of right click menu on Cinnamon Desktop

did you lose the entire rightclick menu or just most of the items on it? i ask cause if you hide your desktop icons you lose almost all the context menu items for the desktop. i'be mentioned this in another thread. ti's something i consider a bug, but it's done by design.

Might be as simple as adding some codecs?
yea i though about that after making that post. sound converter doesn't handle aac's but sound Konverter does, and does a great and fast job of it.
