Re: Bluetooth on Thinkpad

I saw a suggestion that Bluetooth is accessible in the BIOS settings under Security, then IO Port Access under that. Then the F10 key to save and exit the BIOS. That example may not be exactly the way your model is set up, but the setting for Bluetooth is probably buried and non-intuitive. Hi every...

Re: Preparing my computer to donate

DBAN is a great utility, it's free, and it does a very high grade over write at a very low level on the targeted hard drive. The only safer method is to take a sledge hammer to the drive, mix the pieces in with concrete, and dump the hardened result into the deepest part of the ocean. Please don't :(

Re: Slow Cabled Ethernet Connection

Hi, (just a precision : always post console text in code tags on the forum, like I did. It's far easier to read :wink: ) I was looking to verify if your NIC was properly set in Gigabit mode, which is the case judging by the inxi output. Are you 100% sure about the information given by the colour of ...

Re: Mint Debian Editon 3 VS Mint Cinnamon19

I don't understand what all of you are saying about LMDE not supporting PPA. I needed the KXStudio repos on my LMDE 3 computer and installed them with their deb package ; and in fact all of them are Ubuntu PPAs : $ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kxstudio* deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-debian/gc...

Re: Keyboard not working

According to several results in this google search, it looks like enabling the Legacy USB support option in the BIOS should solve it.

Re: Keyboard not working

Hi,

Let me try to clarify :

- The built-in keyboard of your laptop suddenly stopped working
- With any USB keyboard, you can access and use the BIOS, but not GRUB, then you have no problem once it has booted into Mint.

Is that right ? Once booted, does the built-in keyboard work again ?

Re: Slow Cabled Ethernet Connection

Hi,

Can you give us a bit more information :

Code: Select all

$ inxi -Fxz

Code: Select all

$ ethtool <NIC>
where <NIC> should be replaced by your NIC ID. If you don't have ethtool on your system : $ sudo apt install ethtool

Re: LMDE 3 is too slow and heavy?

I agree that something must be wrong in your install. Here is my RAM usage with only the terminal opened in my up-to-date LMDE 3 Cinammon on Lenovo Thinkpad X220T : $ free -h total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 3.7G 480M 2.4G 157M 887M 3.1G Swap: 4.0G 366M 3.6G EDIT : inxi shows a littl...

It looks like something is wrong with a PCI device. What cards do you have in your PCI slots ?

Re: Issues With Adding To Sources List

Apparently there is no i386 package in this repository. If you're on a 64 bit system it is not a problem.

EDIT : better answer from philotux :)

(Don't forget to add the [Solved] tag to the title of the topic if it's ok for you :wink: )

Re: Boot repair help please

What I can think of immediately is that resetting the BIOS caused the boot order to be modified from the way it was before, then causing grub not to find your /boot partition. What is your partitioning scheme ?

Re: Boot repair help please

Hi, Installing a new graphics card and my grub got corrupted, had to reset the bios and I think that did it. All in all, I'm having a frustrating time trying to figure out what I need to do. Upon installing the graphics card, it wouldn't actually boot in. It's the RX 590 Radeon, so that'll be fun ge...

I would add to be VERY careful when typing the command and triple-check if you chose the right disk to erase !
