Re: [solved] Need help with bash script...

Now I just need to go to the documentation I would suggest to find several UNIX shell tutorials to compare different points of view, then find yourself a cheat sheet and practice everytime you need to automate something. You will find that it is in fact a -very- powerful tool ! And yes, I said "UNI...

Re: Need help with bash script...

Of course, I have coded C/C++/C#/Javacsript etc, what I wondered about was the positioning of the semi colon after the condition and before the then keyword. In c-like languages semicolon marks the end of the line, which it is clearly not doing in bash. So what does it do? To me it just looks weird...

Re: Timeshift and mount points

This is very interesting. I'll test it on another computer that I plan to switch to LMDE. Thanks !

On the other hand, I don't see anyone in this thread agreeing on this warning that I'm suggesting to be added. Is there a reason for this ? Am I missing a best practice or something ?...

Re: Timeshift and mount points

Since I had the problem I indeed moved my timeshift directory to a separate partition, but thanks !

But even in this case, I think Timeshift should warn the user if it has filled up its partition while creating a snapshot, because it will prevent future snapshots to be made

Re: cant write on some partitions

I'm glad that it works for you ! However, I strongly advise that you rename your directories to something else like drive_c and drive_d In general, files and directories should not named with anything other than alphanumeric characters and - _ + . Spaces are possible too, but are forced to be escape...

Re: cant write on some partitions

Why did it work now? was it the $ mount order or did I just make some mistake before? :D Well it's quite difficult to say... I asked you to give us the output of $ mount to see if the partitions were mounted read-only. But the "rw" option on the last two lines tells otherwise, as you said it works ...

It sounds like a failing partition / hard disk. Can you post the output of $ fsck when you have to run it ?

Can you give us your audio card info : $ inxi -Az

When you say it works on Windows, is it with the same hardware ?

Re: Mounted NAS folder permissions

These are options : the first digit is to tell dump to backup this partition or not (if you are using it, which I doubt), and the second one tells your system whether to check or not the filesystem and with which priority. More info : $ man fstab Also, don't forget to add the [SOLVED] tag to your to...

Re: cant write on some partitions

I don't see your partitions showing. Were they mounted at the time of executing $ mount ? What is your procedure to access them ? Do you click on it in the file manager ?

Re: cant write on some partitions

When you have access to your read only partitions, please open a terminal and give us the output of the following commands :

Code: Select all

$ mount
$ cat /etc/fstab

Ok thanks for all your replies. I have opened a feature request for a warning for disk usage, because I think many other use cases would be benefiting from this.

Re: It's a bird ! It's a plane !

I'd like a tablet version (X201, X220 or X230) Try ebay and amazon, that's where I got some of mine from. You'll find a lot of thinkpad users on the forum. Mint usually installs 'out of the box' on thinkpads. I can confirm : I found a secondhand X220t in excellent condition just yesterday night, so...
