Re: No audio on Youtube

Not 100% sure what you are asking, but I have a Logitech USB headset and if somethign doesn't work I got Applications > Sound and Video > Pulse Audio Volume Control > Playback then make sure whatever isn't working is playing sound and it should pop up in the playback tab. Once you see it click the t...

Re: Won't boot from HDD

Wow. Uh, giant confused aside, this puts us a little closer to the answer. I Googled around and Grub Disk Error is one of the tougher ones to fix. I would try Super Grub again, and if that doesn't work try following this tutorial http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/p15.htm#Re-install_Grub_with_Li...

Re: Won't boot from HDD

I looked up the Verifying DMI thing some more and it doesn't look good. There is no way for me to tell whether or not this is a hardware or software issue until you get this thing fixed. It is hard for me to tell what to do without seeing the actual comptuer, but this is how I would proceed. Try Sup...

Re: Nolapic

You have installed 198 distros and their updates? o.O Anyways, not sure on the installing thing but as far as upgrading to 7 (I'm not on the dev team so I can't say for sure) you should get an option here shortly in the updater to update the distro. As for "A way so I won't have to loose everything ...

Re: Won't boot from HDD

Download Super Grub, burn it to a disc and try some of its automated tools. It has helped me numerous times and can find OS installs, configure grub and install it to the MBR. The only problem is I have no idea how to use it, I just kind of guess and check and somehow it has always pulled through. I...

Re: Won't boot from HDD

You might want to try editing the grub menu. No linux distro has ever gotten the hard drive numbering right on my desktop and I have to do this every time I install a new OS. When the grub menu comes up hit escape and then enter for OK then you should get the classic blue and black grub boot menu. H...

Re: Fresh Install - User ID/PW?

Hmm... that's odd, on the live disc you should automatically be logged on as some generic user with no password. I know in Ubuntu it was just 'ubuntu' but am not sure what the LinuxMint one is off the top of my head. Sometimes if X crashes it can kick you back out the the logon screen, but it should...

Re: Install Avant Simple laucher Linuxmint

avant should be in the software repositories, just search for it in Software Manager or Package Manager or in the terminal run "sudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator". If you every want to install a program the best place to check first is always either of the package managers, they have hundr...

Re: Anti-Virus

I don't think virus protection exists for Linux and I'm pretty sure ClamAV is only for scanning Windows partitions. I have personally never heard of a Linux virus. There are many reasons why Linux has no viruses but the main one I think is the way Linux (and any Unix based OS) handles permissions. I...

Re: trouble installing itunes????

I'm the guy my friends and family go to for computer help and one of the most common things I do to help speed up their computers is removing iTunes and installing Songbird. iTunes is a horrid program that takes up way to much resources and installs a bunch of extra background programs. Songbird is ...
