Re: Newbie Installing Mincraft 18.2 - it's Preparing...?

You're not giving this forum much of a chance, as others have said, it's one of the best I've used.
I've no idea about help chat, I've never used it.

Re: All menu & panel applications are missing in Mint 18.3 Cinnamon after adding a launcher

Yes, you should be able to do that, but the last time I tried to describe how it just cause heaps of confusion. But I'll give it ago anyway, just be aware, I'm not 100% sure of what I'm doing. So if you open a terminal, and just type Ultimaker_Cura ten press enter, does that start it? If it does, yo...

Re: Where is Grub?

Things seemed to have changed over the years.

I've had grub swap from one OS to another when grub was updated to a later version on a secondary system.
But last time I wanted it to happen and it didn't, so I had to change the boot order instead.

Re: Mouse has just gone nuts!

Well that's certainly an exhaustive list, take your pick. As I've already stated, the easiest way to fix is replace the mother board, I'd give that a 95% chance of success. And as I've already said, you may be able to narrow it down by tapping around the mother board with an insulated probe, just wa...

Sorry dwik, I feel your pain, this is indeed extraordinary. The only thing I can think of, is to try another phone. Even if it's just to eliminate another factor in the equation

It will be interesting to see this result, I'll take a bet, there's only 6gb in there.

That is really weird, if I didn't think it was impossible I'd suspect your stereo of being very possessive, and preventing anything else using it.

Re: new menu item not working

If I just put the above command in the launcher it wouldn't work Because FTW_start.sh in not in your path, so when mint searches for the command it can't find it. You can see your path with echo $PATH , e.g. andy@T430 ~ $ echo $PATH /home/andy/bin:/home/andy/.local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bi...

Re: new menu item not working

I don't know what this means. I do have the program set to be executable. And it does run from the command line. So when you say "point to the command, not have the command in it", what do you mean? I have it set up like other links. For example, the Superposition benchmark does work, and I have it...

Re: new menu item not working

I'm using mate not Cinnamon, But I found a similar thing, the launcher needs to point to the command, not have the command in it. Also of course the command text, permissions needs to be set to execute.

Re: Shutdown vs Suspend

Modern HDDs seem to cope with stopping starting.
When we bought our first PC over 20 years ago, we were told to leave it on. But we didn't take any notice of this advice, and turned on and off daily. In that time I haven't had a HDD failure, this current one is over 6 years old.

Shame on you, people.
Please consider our earth and its dwindling resources and keep your computers off when not being used.
Spot on Peter!
Turn all electrical stuff off when not in use. Individually it may only be a few watts, but collectively it all adds up.

Re: Mouse has just gone nuts!

do you have any other sort of controller plugged into the computer? Game console, Joy stick, etc? Too often I've heard windows users complain of the same, and turns out they had another device hooked in that was tossed off the side for game playing and that was causing their mouse to act erraticall...

EmaRsk, we don't correct other people's spelling here unless it makes things unclear (spelling errors in names of packages and such). After all, this is an international forum, and for many of us, that means that we're using a foreign language, like I'm doing now. It's hard enough as it is, even wi...

Larry, I keep forgetting about Google, your link did the trick.

I just need to work out what went wrong with Caja, and if a different file manager would do any better. But that's another matter.

Re: where is mtp://%5Busb%3A002,008%5D/Tablet

Thanks Larry, forgive me for being obtuse, and leaving out, what to me seemed obvious. I know it's on the tablet, but where is it mounted on my mint box? As I said I'm I want to CD to it, but can't see where it's mounted. I thought that file systems needed to be mounted, any other usb connection I'v...

SOLVED where is mtp://%5Busb%3A002,008%5D/Tablet, mounted?

19.2 mint mate trying to copy pictures from a Samsung tablet with Caja. My wife has them organised in Albums, some of the albums copy straight over without a problem, others either hang or crash Caja. So I thought I'd get smart and use the terminal instead, but the tablet isn't mounted in "media' or...
