Re: installed game, now can't exit out of windows

on a similar theme to getting it to reload. Using mate, In desktop settings, there's a "windows manager". at the bottom of that you can choose "Buttons layout" left or right. You could try toggling that, it just might jog something back to life.

Re: Bug reporting for iCloud mail.

I'm a little old and have difficulty dealing with halfwits always making silly comments and not getting to the point. If Linuxmint wants to be succesful it needs to weed out stupid comments to people making genuine investigations. That's why I come and go with Linuxmint, so many halfwits it's somet...

Re: Bug reporting for iCloud mail.

I think the problem here, is that people that come for help, don't have much understanding of how this volunteer forum works.

They seem to expect the sort of service you should get from a paid professional help line.

Re: Mouse has just gone nuts!

BIG question is, does the touch pad work in windows?
I'm betting it doesn't.

It's obviously part of the same cct as the mouse, one's gone crazy the other's stopped.

If it doesn't work in windows then it's nothing to do with linux.

Definitely an old fart! That's why my username.

Re: Mouse has just gone nuts!

Wired. From the mouse to the computer. Why? Just for clarification I guess, assuming stuff can lead to mistakes. So the thing is, a USB mouse plugs straight into the laptop, without an adapter, so are you using an old PS2 mouse with an adapter to USB? If that's all you were using, it could be the c...

Re: Mouse has just gone nuts!

Hi fresh-breath. I don't know why you got banned, maybe because it was a dual post? I think that's frowned upon here, I'm fairly new here myself. OK, an interesting experiment to try, is to unplug the mouse, then tap the laptop, but not the touchpad, and see if you can produce mouse movement that wa...

Re: Mouse has just gone nuts!

If it's happening on windows as well as Mint, every USB port, and several mice are all doing the same thing, it has to be a hardware problem. Sounds like a noisy connection to me How do other USB devices work? If everything else that plugs into a USB port work well, then it's restricted to whatever ...

Re: ...to dual boot or not to dual boot

From what I've heard it's windows 10 that is the main cause of dual boot problems.
I've dual booted since the turn of the century without a problem. But I'm not going to attempt it with windows 10. I'll either run windows 7, sandboxed in virtual box or use wine.

Re: Wine or something else?

It's easy enough to give wine a try, if your program doesn't run in it, then think about virtual box. I found on this old machine I needed to add a bit more ram, to get windows in VB working nicely. I've used wine for years without a problem until the latest update stopped one of my programs working...

Re: Wine or something else?

At the moment I'm doing all 3. I found I'm too impatient to boot in and out of OSs, so then tried wine, which worked well for the few programs I need. But the update from 18.3 to 19.1 broke one of them, then talk of the insecurity of wine led me to the VM path. This is faster than dual booting, but ...

Apparently back in time isn't meant for backing up data or the home partition.
Sound like you're crossing up BIT and Timeshift. It's the latter of which this statement is true.

Re: Back in Time doesn't see spare hdd

Apparently back in time isn't meant for backing up data or the home partition.

And the only reason I can think of, for it not seeing your other drive, is that it's not mounted. As it's not recommended to save in the home folder.

Re: Google Earth does not work !

So the issue really isn't "solved" GE still doesn't work in 18.3

So maybe it should be called something like "workaround". We've got out of the problem by bypassing it, not solving it.

Just for future reference, of somebody else looking for an answer to this problem.

Re: Google Earth does not work !

I installed mint mate 19.2 on another disk and then Google Earth and it worked right away! I guess it's easier not to try to fix the problem with 18.3 but wait until I can set everything in 19.2 as I'm used to having it. >>> Yes, well that's exactly the decision I made as well. Re: Google Earth does not work !

Agreed it's always good to get to the bottom of it, but that's way beyond my abilities in this case. In 19.2 I have version 7.3.2.5776 (64-bit), I'll check what's in 18.3 and come back In 18.3 it's 7.3.0.3832 (64-bit), and this is what it looks like GE problem 18.3 small.png The small black square i...

Re: Google Earth does not work !

As I thought you're using mint 18, I bet it will work with 19. I tried 19.2 last night and it works fine, but in 18.3 it just wont work properly, freezes and is mainly transparent, showing the desktop underneath. Sound familiar?
