Re: Occasional screen flicker and black square around windows

So, I have been tinkering around with the xorg.conf file, and I have made a few developments through trial and error and reading about the various commands and syntax. The secondary monitor works with these settings, but there's still a flicker and the system still freezes if it's plugged in or out ...

Re: Occasional screen flicker and black square around windows

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=274157 Thank you! That fixed that error problem. Still did not let me connect a second monitor without crashing though. Also, I seem to login every time now with a black screen and mouse pointer. The only way I can get the gui up is if I do CNTRL+AL...

Re: Occasional screen flicker and black square around windows

There are no newer drivers for your video card but the older nvidia-384 or 340 drivers may be available in Driver Manager to test. For the flickering, open NVIDIA X Server Settings to the X Server Display Configuration page. Click the Advanced button. Is there an option for ForceCompositionPipeline...

(SOLVED) Occasional screen flicker and black square around windows

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=283601 ^After this thread (solution on last page), I got my desired resolution, but a second monitor made my system freeze and I got really bad screen flickering and black outlines around windows even without a second monitor. I removed the 390.77 dr...

Re: Nvidia Driver Does Not Show Correct Resolution

I did find this:

viewtopic.php?t=226242

They seem to be having a similar problem to me, though, I do not know how to properly edit the code that was proposed as a solution.

But you were using the switch when the nouveau driver was installed?
That is correct. I checked the edid when the card was plugged into the monitor, and it was the exact same.

Re: Nvidia Driver Does Not Show Correct Resolution

That did not work either. This definitely has something to do with the KVM switch conflicting with the driver somehow though. I plugged the card directly into the monitor instead of the switch and the correct resolution was available.

Re: Nvidia Driver Does Not Show Correct Resolution

redpinkoZ1917 I just duplicated all your steps on a Mint 19 installation and I don’t see those 2 warning lines in the log file. The only difference is that your .edid.bin file, with the padlock on it, is owned by root but mine is owned by me. However, when I changed ownership to root, I still didn’...

Re: Nvidia Driver Does Not Show Correct Resolution

i fixed my issue with editing xorg.conf by adding this line: i'm using nvidia-340 but i'm sure this line has to work on yours. if not it's an easy undo. i tried messing with xrandr but only headaches. BUT if it does work BEWARE it will add resolutions under and over your min/max so if you switch re...

Re: Nvidia Driver Does Not Show Correct Resolution

Since you posted the log file quickly before I shut off my PC, I decided to look at it. These lines in it suggests the .edid.bin file doesn’t exist: [ 71.882] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to use EDID file '/home/redpinko/.edid.bin': No such [ 71.882] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): file or directory That is stra...

We are also back to DP-1 as the primary, strange enough. The video output name will be different, depending on the loaded driver. These lines are the monitor’s EDID in hex format from the xrandr --prop output. 00ffffffffffff001e6df1599f970000 031b010380502278eaca95a6554ea126 0f5054a54b80714f818081c...

Re: Nvidia Driver Does Not Show Correct Resolution

I guess I should’ve asked, but should code you gave me for the conf file have been the only code in there? Yes and I forgot to post instructions in case you could not get back to the desktop. Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to enter the virtual console tty1. Login and then type this command to remove the xorg.co...
