Re: TP-Link TL-823N too slow

If the installation guide will work then hopefully I can expect to see speeds comparable with my wired Ethernet. In my experience, you will NEVER see wifi speeds comparable to an Ethernet connection to the same router, even if the machine was right next to it. Don't set your expectations too high. ...

It appears that your wifi requires the ath3k driver. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I have will be along to instruct you in how to get it reinstalled.

Re: Question after install

Please post an inxi -Fxz  report. This will give us a concise overview of your hardware and on how Mint  sees  it. Here is how to generate the report and post it: Boot from your installation media (USB/DVD) Open a terminal window (Ctrl-Alt-t). Make it fullscreen to avoid unneeded linebreaks or chopp...

Re: Cinnamon Crashing

We'll need more information to help you. What, specifically, were you doing when the crash happened? What programs were open? If a browser was open, how many tabs? Can you make it happen again? Larry NOTE: Pics make it difficult for us to help you. Either copy the text from the terminal and paste it...

You must be a race car driver or speed freak to be concerned about a boot time under 20 secs.

Re: Which Mint 19 to choose

You say you already have it on your machine so you must be installing it on someone else's computer at another location, given your question. Not knowing the specs of the machine in question, I would go with Mate or XFCE.

Problem inserting newline in script (SOLVED)

I'm having a problem getting a section of a script to insert a new line into a doc. Here's the script section: echo '#!/bin/sh' >> $RESTORE_SCRIPT (echo '\n' ; echo "APT=/etc/apt" ; echo "BAK=/etc/apt_bak" ; echo 'DIR2="$PWD"/temp/apt' ;) >> $RESTORE_SCRIPT (echo '\n' ; echo 'mv $APT $BAK' ; echo 'm...

Re: unable to launch cinnamon session after removing default screensaver

first of all, thanks for your input, but I am not going to use timeshift, as I consider it a waste of valuable ssd space. I think everything should be fixed from the command line. If not, I should stick to windows (i don't use system restore there either, but never had a problem). Would you conside...

Re: Question, how to use Grsync for personal folder backup

I use BackInTime. In addition to being able to exclude folders and certain file types, you can set it up to make backups automatically on a set schedule. Easy to set up and once you get used to it you can set up multiple profiles so if you have a folder that rarely changes, you can have a profile fo...
