Re: Data on separate HDD

I may have gone wrong when adding the line to fstab. I added the line by copying and pasting your sample and changing the UUID to my own. This is what I changed it to. /dev/sda5: LABEL="DATA" UUID="0CBC2501BC24E6C4" TYPE="ntfs" PARTUUID="40d30de7-05" Did I need all of this or only part of it? Mike,...

Re: [SOLVED] Locked out after upgrade from 19.2 to 19.3

At this point I would start looking for a way to increase the free space on that / partition either by removing unused kernels or increasing the size of the partition. <Rant> LM documentation really needs to be updated. All versions have gotten more resource intensive over the years. A 20GB / partit...

Re: Thunderbird Mail - mail received sound not working

I'm running 19.3 Cinnamon with Thunderbird 68.2.2 and the default sound doesn't work here either. It works fine after selecting a different .wav file. I think the problem is at Mozilla's end.

Re: Locked out

I believe you can't install without setting a password. On that same screen is a checkbox to allow you to login without asking for it. Coming back from a locked screensaver or doing an update will still require you to enter it. Unfortunately, I know of no method to recover your password. Unless I'm ...

Re: Suddenly started to take long time to boot

Here's how I would proceed.
Open a terminal and execute the following commands one at a time

Code: Select all

cd /etc
sudo cp fstab fstab.bak
sudo xed fstab
this will open your editor. Delete the last 2 lines and save the file then reboot.

Hope this helps,
Larry

Re: Suddenly started to take long time to boot

OP's fstab: # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices # that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5). # # <file system> <mount point> <type>...

Re: Using http://old-releases.ubuntu.com properly

When you compile old source code, you're compiling code that may have had security holes that were unknown at the time it was written. You still have any security holes that may have existed. Where's the improvement in security coming from? Have you gone thru the source code and fixed any security h...

Re: Updates have made install unbootable

Is this a dual boot machine? I've heard of Windows update messing up the boot of LM but I've never heard of an update deleting Cinnamon. We need more definitive information!
