Re: Old laptop freezes on slideshows (with voice) within Zoom (2GB RAM, Intel i3 64-bit processor, Linux Mint 19.3 XFCE)

Aside from being able to show people the difference between low-specced laptops on Mint and Windows 10, nothing much I guess. On second thought, I do want the first-grader to see it, might be worth upgrading it in the future.

Edit: Thanks for the link.

Old laptop freezes on slideshows (with voice) within Zoom (2GB RAM, Intel i3 64-bit processor, Linux Mint 19.3 XFCE)

For a first-grader's online classes. I'm pretty sure it's the low RAM, Zoom recommends 4GB. (We're waiting for a brand new laptop and temporarily using another Windows 10, 4GB RAM laptop, which runs okay.) I wasn't there when this happened, but they had to forced-shut-down it (holding the power butt...

Laptop suddenly shut down, adapter/charger indicator light also turned off.

At that moment I was browsing on Firefox Developer with around 5+ tabs open, and also on Libre Calc. Was saving the spreadsheet when laptop suddenly shut down. Laptop's plugged in every time but when it shut down, the adapter/charger indicator light also turned off; it never turns off when it's plug...

Re: Any pCloud users here? Got a few concerns

Thanks and no problem! I'm only starting to use it now as if it's my main folder already. The only thing bothering me is the one-minute sync delays. Maybe you could try observing, too? Got so used to Dropbox's instant sync, pCloud's delay makes me wonder if all the changes I make are being uploaded ...

Any pCloud users here? Got a few concerns

TL;DR: After migrating 1 GB of encrypted files (except KeePass database) to pCloud (free plan): Files got corrupted. One weird instance of downloading "ghost files" indefinitely. Delay in syncing modified files between 2 PC's (Linux Mint 19.3), and between Synced Folders (Local Folder and...

"File exists" but is not there: Error while copying from Dropbox to pCloud within Cryptomator

This is the prompt: "Error while copying There was an error creating the folder "[FOLDER-3]" Error creating directory /home/[USER]/.local/share/Cryptomator/mnt/[SUB-DIRECTORY]/[FOLDER-3]: File exists" This is what happened: I'm migrating stuff from Dropbox to pCloud. All files ar...

Re: Why does Dropbox need a proprietary daemon on my newer laptop but not on older desktop?

Just an update: I've uninstalled Dropbox (which has been from the Software Manager) and reinstalled using the deb package from their site. Pop-up keeps showing up. Before I shift to pCloud this weekend, can anyone tell me where to look in faint hopes of fixing it, as a last resort? This issue remain...

Unsolved mystery: Dropbox always wanting to download proprietary daemon on newer laptop, but never on older desktop

Edited to add: Just wanted to note that laptop is on WiFi (wireless) while desktop is wired. -- It's gotten annoying I'm thinking about ditching Dropbox as my main cloud service provider already. About 80% of the time the prompt shows up, it does a couple of "glitches": it hides an app's p...

Re: Dropbox message

Maybe a new version of the daemon was released? Is it possible that the daemon gets updated just after 2 days? I keep getting this prompt and it does a couple of "glitches" on my PC until I do a reboot. I used to click Cancel but it's gotten really annoying I'm thinking about ditching Dro...

Re: Help a noob: mintupgrade errors (LM 19.3 to 20)

But again. These updates (from 18 to 19 or 19 to 20) are like installing a whole new OS (like from MacOS to Windows XP and WindowsXP to Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 and Windows 7 to Windows 10). A clean install has to be done in either of the cases. I didn't really see it that way and n...

Re: Help a noob: mintupgrade errors (LM 19.3 to 20)

Thanks for your replies! I have yet to check the other apps I regularly use. What kinda bugs me is the inevitable need for clean installs...not really a fan of that. Well maybe it's just denial stage and I can't really complain! Also, I just checked: I don't have Flatpak apps installed and I was rem...

Re: Help a noob: mintupgrade errors (LM 19.3 to 20)

@zcot: Thanks for the heads-up! Unfortunately I just found out that CherryTree doesn't support Ubuntu 20.04 yet, so I need to stick with LM 19.3 for now. This upgrade indeed is huge hehe. I need to be more alert! @Kadaitcha Man: Gotcha. For me upgrading from 19.1 > 19.2 > 19.3 were a breeze. My bigg...

Re: Help a noob: mintupgrade errors (LM 19.3 to 20)

If you want to go to Mint 20, backup your important files and clean install. Thanks. You think it's not worth the hassle to manually upgrade that I should just do a clean install? I mean, I have a couple of hours to burn... On another note: Has it always been this "tedious" to upgrade to ...

[SOLVED] Help a noob: mintupgrade errors (LM 19.3 to 20)

Update: Just found out that CherryTree cannot be installed on Ubuntu 20.04 yet. Guess I'll be staying with 19.3 for a bit longer, then! *** Tried posting this on the "How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20" page but Sucuri Firewall blocked it: "HTML code not allowed". I pasted outputs f...

[SOLVED] Menu: How to show only favorites, lock/logout/quit, search bar; multi-column; and hide categories?

I find that I prefer a (very) minimalist UI. My desktop is nothing but a background image, panel's always hidden, and I don't like any visible desktop items. Now I want my menu to show only icons of apps I regularly use. (This borrowed image for reference.) Following my post title above, is there a ...

Why was Dropbox sync stuck at basically ~0 KB/sec for 3+ hours?

It just started downloading/syncing a few minutes ago. First time this happened in my 9 months of using Mint. I uninstalled Dropbox through: GUI (right click + Uninstall at Menu) sudo apt-get remove dropbox sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove dropbox -- this removed some ~5.6 GB of dependencies. Resta...

Maximize button of LibreOffice's main window disappears when Text scaling factor is set to 1.3 and above

UPDATE 3: Also happens when Default Font (in Font Selection) is 13 and above. -- UPDATE 2: Found the culprit, I think. This happens when Text scaling factor is set to 1.3 (and above). To clarify, I meant opening LO's "main window" that shows huge icons of all recent documents. At 1.2 and a...

Thanks. Here's what I've done: Right-click PDF file >> Properties >> under Open With >> Click Okular >> Click Set as default. using KDE apps like Okular in GTK based DEs like Cinnamon often leads to some minor issues with theming and UI There's another PDF viewer as "popular" as Okular but...

Re: How to set colored icon size between 32px and 48px?

Went for the second option, it worked, thanks so much :D I hope values between 32 and 48px become part of the "standard," too. My PC's screens have the same resolution, 1366x768, which I think is very common, but with different sizes, 14" and 18.x". The said size options in the G...
