If you need to rescue data on it then press that.
If you don't need to rescue data on it, then press 'fix filesystem'.

Re: USB stick read only

OK,
In the line where it says nosuid, add the following line and it should nuke the permissions problem if that is what the problem is.
Make sure there are commas between each, so there is a comma before the rw below.

Code: Select all

,rw,noauto,fmask=000,dmask=000

Re: Firefox already running on startup. Reboot. Now blank screen

That I don't know what to do with or how to fix. It might be worth waiting for someone else more knowledgeable in Linux to come forward. When you installed LM originally, did you use the 'standard' way or 'Another' way - as in extra partitions, encryption etc? Also, when the computer was shut down t...

Re: Updates Won't Download

It could be the mirror you are using if some of the updates came through ok.
You can wait or change the mirror to one that is geographically nearer to you in System Settings / Software Sources.

Re: POTENTIAL Newbie

1) Excellent depending on what you want to do and if you accept that different software works differently. 2) Depends on your hardware. Xfce for older computers. Mate is supposed to be the most stable. I use Cinnamon and haven't had any serious problems that Timeshift and a bit of googling/forum wor...

Re: USB stick read only

If we concentrate on one drive at a time then we can go from there.....

Shove the 32GB drive in again.
Go to Disks.
Click on the larger partition.
Click on the cog.
Click on 'Edit Mount Options'
The top slider.... User Session Defaults - turn off.

Once you've done that, what is highlighted?

You can try a 'system repair' also by booting into live disk and running the following command from terminal.

Code: Select all

fsck -y /dev/sdX
Where X=your system drive (most likely but not definitely, a )

Re: Wine, playonlinux or not worth the hassle?

I would think if it is only 1 app you need, it should be easy to find some alternatives you can try out. google "alternatives to ............." Try them out, if you like them scrap windows. If you don't, remove them and try another. If you exhaust all the alternatives, then either dual boot or VM so...

Re: Timeshift insufficient disk space

Can you check that Timeshift isn't trying to save to one of your smaller partitions. If it is change it to the larger partition - (it will need to be formatted with EXT4) Also, it would be worth making another partition specifically for Timeshift snapshots or make sure to do backups and manual Times...
