Re: Are there are any professional audio recording studios or artists that use Linux?

I tried Ubuntu Studio in a virtualbox for some time, before I landed on LM. I saw a video on Youtube where a professional studio used Ubuntu Studio. That got me interested. Anyway, I already have an iMac and two others in the band also uses Apple products. So we went down that road. So we use Garage...

No Linux on newer Macs?

I just watched WWDC 2020 Keynote(news from Apple) and they will ship Macs with their own "Custom silicon", so they are dropping Intel CPU's. Do you think that the "Custom silicon" will lock the device to macOS only? I certainly hope not, but that could be a problem when that devi...

Re: LM detects the old HD first

But this is basically to say that you should live with it... Ok, I can do that. :D I have searched high and low for a solution for this and can't find an answer. You need to look in your machine's manual for the answer. Specifically, boot order. Setting the boot order might settle the issue, but th...

LM detects the old HD first

Well ... It's not a problem as such, but it annoys me a bit. I installed a m.2 SSD and installed LM on it. The old spinning HD was wiped. The thing is, I'd like the SSD to be sda and not sdb. I have searched high and low for a solution for this and can't find an answer. All I found was something to ...

Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

I did an update on my main laptop from 19.3 to 20 and a clean install on my backup laptop.
No issues at all! :D
Although I haven't used the backup laptop very much.
Maybe I'll install LMDE on it.

I'm curious as well, maybe I'll install LMDE on my backup laptop and take a look.
Or maybe do it via virtualbox.

To me its a solution.
A solution to escape M$ and do whatever I need to do, and not worrying about viruses, surveillance and forced updates.
An opportunity to explore anything foss and freedom.
Its not for free though, I donate whenever I feel I have money to spare.

Re: Acer's laptops are always broken...

My dad gave me his laptop, I think the last time he turned laptop on was 6-7 years ago at least. He is just not interested in computers. An Acer Aspire 6530, I guess it must be about 10 years old. I installed Debian Buster on it today, I had to run the installer 3 times before I succeeded. :-/ And i...

Is it at laptop or a desktop?
My wifi card in my laptop didn't work at the beginning, but managed to get it working using a cabled connection.

Some distros like Fedora allow you to choose your DE at pickup.
Debian lets you choose DE at login.
Its pretty neat, I hope it comes to Mint as well.

Oh lucky you! I am so envious. My girlfriend can sleep 10 hours as well. Amazing. But she still feels tired. Go figure... I don't know if it helps you, I go into some kind of meditative state when I lay my head on the pillow. Its otherwise very difficult for me to meditate, because of my tinnitus. ...

:D
It reminds me of an article I read many years ago, showing Bill Gates at the olympics facepalming because the displays Bluescreened. That was in the XP days.
It must have been embarrassing.

Yeah, it took me 8 weeks to read up on it and watch the online course, before I felt ready to take the tests.
Things have definitely changed since 2001, although a lot still is basically the same.

Re: Linux as a Windows Subsystem

As I sit here continuing to follow this thread, I keep wanting to bring up the point — which I will now bring up — that what I'd really prefer to do in going back to work as a professional in the tech industry is to be attached to GNU+Linux, presumably as a net or sys admin, or some other kind of s...

Re: How many hours do you sleep. A post from a chronic imsoniac...

I sleep roughly 8-9 hours and can easily sleep 9-11 hours if I forget to set my alarm, which often happens in the weekends. I fall asleep quite fast, somewhere between 2-10 minutes. 10-20 years ago, it took me 30-60 minutes to fall asleep. Now, when I lay my head on my pillow, I think of sailing on ...

I know your situation.
I dual boot on my iMac, MacOs/Win10. Windows is only used for gaming.

Linux Mint is on my laptop and its Linux only.
It had Win10 on it and it's now a much better machine.

I don't know much about the filesystem(yet), but it seems very logical.
And if it works, then great! Maybe the speeds at reading will also improve? I don't know.
Is it easier to understand and get an overview of?

Re: Nearly a year has passed...

...for the most part it feels like I'm going backwards in using Apple's or Microsoft's OSs. I feel the same, espcially using Windows(which I use only for the occasional gaming). MacOS is stil fairly new to me, I've had the iMac for around 1 1/2 years now. I like MacOS, I mostly use it for Logic Pro...
