Re: Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE

The new pc is very nice! I installed Min 19.1 and after installation I opened Firefox, Chromium and Libreoffice - the performance looks good, But during the installation of the updates something went wrong and some of it was canceled. When restarted the menu on the left was gone, I have formatted an...

Re: Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE

@Melismata
Thanks

What you write seems reassuring
I tried searching for ASUS k50i (maybe it would be the K50IJ?)
I see that it is a core Celeron, therefore much slower than I3
With an I3 then I should be pretty good ..

Re: Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE

@Joe Thanks for your comments. I already know that website and I've used some of those tricks on my Mint 18 So you say that Mint 18 is lighter on some old PCs? If so I could also install 18.3 on the Asus. The only thing that I regret is that with the LM 19.1 version I would have had a more recent ve...

Re: Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE

@Joe Thanks I get this: I3-7020U = 3.518 I5-7200U = 4.603 If I have interpreted well, there is a 30% difference between these two values. I read about the number of the generation that is important but on my Amazon I didn't find any eighth-generation I3 processor (only sixth and seventh) In the mean...

Re: Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE

If I can ask again, can you Pierre or someone else tell me something about the difference between core I3 and I5? I tried to search online and read: 2.3 GHz (I3) vs 2.5 GHz (I5) Is this small difference so significant? I also read that I5 has Turbo Boost which can go up to about 3 GHz but I didn't u...

Re: Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE

Thanks Pierre ! You confirm to me what I suspected. Acer alternative exists and I was going to buy then I stopped because this product has the LAN port at the back and I read that the screen is mediocre (I don't know if it is true) Acer Extensa 15 EX2540-590V Notebook Intel Core i5-7200U, RAM 4GB DD...

Re: Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE

I could also spend more (up to 450 euros) but I didn't find Notebooks that I like as Asus. There are more powerful Asus but they are too expensive and I don't care about SSD. I could buy HP with I5 and Intel HD 620 - HDD 500 GB and 4 GB of RAM for 399 euros (without operating system) or at the same ...

Re: Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE

Is the difference between I3 and I5 so great?

I try to translate differently: is the difference between the two so obvious?

Help for choice Hardware suitable for Mint XFCE o MATE [SOLVED]

Hi guys. Sorry for my bad English but I use the online translator. I hope this is the right place to ask this. I have been using Linux Mint Sylvia since it came out on my desktop PC, it is very stable and gives me great satisfaction (It is so stable that I haven't even updated to the new 19 version)...
