Cannot start x server

I just installed the newly released LMDE and after installation, I installed the nvidia-glx package. It told me that the nouveau driver was in conflict but to restart to resolve the issue. I restarted but it took me to a tty. What do I need to do to get to my desktop? I am coming from Mint Main so I...

Re: The current state of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Windows 7 is quite good, a vast improvement over Vista but that's not saying much. I've been using it for years but the last two I was such a rare guest in Windows that I eventually stopped dual booting with Windows and now only have various Linux distros on the laptop. Windows 7 is much better tha...

The Alpha Gamer wrote:Ok so how do I do that?

Open synaptic package manager, type cinnamon in the search bar, and when you check the box one of the choices will be to remove everything which also removes configuration folders. After that, I restarted the computer and re-installed cinnamon via synaptic.

Re: Isn't Cinnamon supposed to work?

I don't know what caused it but mine did that this past Thursday after updates so I removed everything having to do with Cinnamon and re-installed. It has worked flawlessly since

Re: The current state of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Little aside for a heartfelt THANK YOU to the whole Ubuntu project, the Canonical mothership and remixed derivatives like Mint. Had to do some IT support at the old folks' place today and their Vista machine made me very grateful for Linux - that thing is so painfully, excruciatingly slow! Installe...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I have really grown fond of the cairo dock with gnome and effects session. The latest 3.0 Cairo Dock release makes things very easy to customize along with all that compiz allows. I will likely run both it and Cinnamon in Mint 13 although I am impressed with KDE 4.8 as well. That is what is so nice ...

Thanks craig. That is much better and I did not realize that about the global menu. I am thinking of checking it out when Mint 13 releases and see what the changes are like

I had not even considered the calendar feature but the panel height/transparency absolutely. I have been using gnome pie and am now addicted to it  I'd love a few features from compiz but the foundation is right on track I think

Re: Create custom Desktop launchers

Just another long time user suffering from one of the idiotic design changes in Gnome 3. I am setting up a computer for another user who likes desktop icons. I've already followed the numerous guides online that say you need to use gnome tweak tool to turn off "let file browser manage the desktop"....

Re: The current state of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Does the top panel have an autohide? That would be a deal killer for me. I cannot stand a top panel. I checked out the live cd last night and like alot of the changes but I could not find a way to hide or move that panel

Clem's desktop poll

In looking at all the desktops offered in that poll, I would like to ask the community here what you would like to see added/subtracted/created in Cinnamon? What features from other de's would you like to see in Cinnamon if any? What does a future Cinnamon look like to you?

Re: The current state of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

One thing I really like about Ubuntu and would like to see Mint do is offer the F6 boot options = nomodeset, etc. I see alot of folks on the Ubuntu forums that are having booting issues and have to use that option to get to the desktop. Just a thought

Re: Cinnamon to be default in Mint 13?

Mate is really buggy for me but I just love what Clem has done with Cinnamon. I am betting that there will be a Mint 13 w/Mate release and one with Cinnamon. If Mate is chosen, I'll just install Cinnamon which is easy enough

I absolutely love the holo themes so that would be my pick. Minty is also very nice but I will confess that I like darker themes

Re: Cinnamon Extras PPA (updated April 21)

Anyone here having any luck with the cinnadock extension? It installs fine but how do you make changes? If I right click, I get nothing. It comes up on the right side of the screen but I am not getting the same choices as it shows on the site with autohide, placement, etc. What am I missing? Thanks ...
