Hey DaleR! Couldn't you have at least changed a word or two from my post 7/13: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=324858 ? Well, I guess no real harm done, at least your post got a response! Thank for that! :P My iMac can default boot to external usb drive? Post by 1NEWLINUXUSER » Mon...

Virtualbox 6.1 on iMac Core 2 Duo machine

Hi. I was wondering if anyone might have an idea if an iMac Core 2 Duo with 8gb of ram might have enough power to run Virtualbox 6.1 & Linux Cinnamon 19.x or 20.X? I don'd expect or need blazingly fast speed as most of my computing these days is very basic, email, web searches, photos, music, etc. B...

Re: Linux mint install on macbook pro 2012

Hi. I'm relatively new to the Mac/Linux world but it sounds like to me that your MacBook is doing what it's supposed to do, it recognizes the old Toshiba drive as the boot drive and boots to it, what more could you ask for there? As for the white screen at boot up I think that might be fairly typica...

If you hate clutter, have you done cleanup? Special attention to section 10 https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... -mint.html
Used it early on when I first started using Linux, then forgot about it! Thanks for reminding me of it!

My iMac can default boot to external usb drive?

Hi. I've been booting an iMac to an external usb drive w/Linux for a while now. Just recently I've noticed that the iMac can get in a mode where it will boot directly to the ext. usb drive without having to press the "Option" key at start up! Just leaving the usb cable attached at start up causes th...

Re: Removing old kernels - how many to keep?

Thank you all for the response! So I guess I'm good then as 4.15.0-109 is Active and 108 is Installed. If I click on the Remove button it shows 108 as the only one that can be removed but I'll keep it as other suggest. I just hate computer clutter and hate seeing all those useless kernels listed the...

Re: Removing old kernels - how many to keep?

Ok, great, just when I thought I sorta had a reasonable understanding of what and how many kernels should or shouldn't be kept and/or deleted, here we go with this kernel thing again! My system now shows that there are 40+ kernels spread out between 4.18 and 5.4 and no less than 40+ below the curren...

Psensor: Change Alarm Color???

Hi. Does anyone out there use Psensor and if so do you know if or how you can change the Alarm color? As of now the Alarm icon is white and turns a pale blue when temps reach a preset warning. I'd like to make it something more visible, like red, if possible. have an older hp laptop which tends to r...

Re: Battery level display

I presume you mean the battery icon on the panel. http://biketrain.net/panel.png Dragging the mouse across the panel does nothing. Is this one of those things that can be turned on and off? Yes, the icon in the panel, in lower right on mine. Yours looks way different than mine, my screen shot below...

Re: Battery level display

You should be able to just drag the pointer over the icon and it'll display the % level or right or left click the icon and get a small window that shows the % level plus battery type at the top. Anyway, that's how mine works.

Re: Printing a Tomboy note

Hi. Are you clicking on the black gear symbol in Tomboy? When I click on the gear symbol I get a drop down menu with Print & Ctrl+P (appears grayed out but still works), clicking on Print takes me to another page that allows me to print to a file or to a printer. You might also want to check out Gno...

Re: mint 19.3 on early 2008 max pro

I've installed mint 19.3 on my early 2008 mac pro and it seems to be running OK. But I've noticed two problems: 1. There seems to be no sleep option. I see suspend, and that hangs the machine up and it must be powered down. Is there a way to have it save power when sitting idle without turning it o...

Re: (SOLVED) Can rEFInd boot a MAC to an external usb BIOS drive??

Hum yeah now that I remember it, the ctrl+alt+F1 (by the way it would work also for F2 .. F6) often does not work on Macs. Sorry I forgot that. So the only advice I have left is to try the uswusp package. But you are right that it's enough time spent on the issue. If you ever want to reopen it, mak...

Re: Can rEFInd boot a MAC to an external usb BIOS drive??

You can try what I said in my previous post after login. i.e. once you are automatically logged in, use ctrl+alt+F1 to switch to tty1 etc. Also you can disable/enable automatic login to make your tests : see Menu > Administration > Login Window > Users Well, I've tried ctl+alt+f1 a number of times ...

Re: Can rEFInd boot a MAC to an external usb BIOS drive??

For suspend, that's a more difficult question. I have experienced problems with hibernation (/suspend to disk), but not the standard suspend (=suspend to RAM). Though there are from time to time reports of problems with suspend on the forum. The first thing to check is the video driver : are you us...

Re: Can rEFInd boot a MAC to an external usb BIOS drive??

Congrats! The grub issue is an easy one. I have also found shift/esc not to be reliable. The solution is to edit /etc/default/grub as root/admin to change the style from hidden to menu. Explicitely sudo nano /etc/default/grub locate the line GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden and change it to GRUB_TIMEOUT_S...
