Re: Dual boot imac w/Linux & rEFInd

That seems like a unique approach, will have to keep that in mind! Flash drives should not be a problem as I have many and I assume it can be a fairly small one. Thanks again.

Re: Dual boot imac w/Linux & rEFInd

Go to the source . rEFInd has the most complete support pages of any app in Linux. See also this post by fabien85 , who is probably the most active user of rEFInd on the Forum. Also, happens to be a Mac user. Thanks for bringing both of these back to my attention, ran across both at one point or ot...

Re: Dual boot imac w/Linux & rEFInd

I had the same problem. Just reinstall rEFInd But, at least in my case, even holding ALT pressed at boot works, I can choose from there wether to start with MacOS or Mint Thanks Tuzzer. Apparently a re-install is safe as noted here, https://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/bootcoup.html. Wasn't sure if jus...

(SOLVED) Dual boot imac w/Linux & rEFInd

Hi. I want to try dual booting an imac with Linux Cinnamon using rEFInd outlined in this article, https://www.lifewire.com/dual-boot-linux-and-mac-os-4125733. I installed rEFInd, worked for a couple of days, then dissapeared. I want to reinstall it. Should I just try and reinstall rEFInd or should I...

Re: Linux Mint not booting on iMac Late 2009

Hi Bluesky. I have an almost identical setup, 2009 27" imac, High Sierra. It too was and still is slow on booting to macos even after hours of clean up. But it will live boot and it will boot to an external usb w/cinnamon 19.3, seemingly little or no problems. So, I'm really new to mac and relativel...

Re: CHKDSK

I don't think you can, that's a windows program. But, Linux has something similar called "fsck", check it out here: https://www.tecmint.com/fsck-repair-fil ... -in-linux/

Hope that helps.

Re: Which variant of Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon should I installed 32 bit or 64 bit ?

Hi. I have a 10 yr old HP lap top, Intel® Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3400 @ 2.16GHz × 2 & 3gb ram that runs Mate 19.3 pretty well. It'll run Cinnamon ok but that does use a good bit more of available resources. Suggest you make a live boot usb or dvd and check each out, then decide. Below are a couple of ...

Re: Linux Mint boot drive is not recognized in HP Pavillion

Hi. Is it possible that usb drive is bad? Maybe reformat it and write something else to it and see if it's recognized then. Do you have another usb drive to try? I don't use Rufus or Unbootn so can't comment on those so I suggest possibly you download and write the usb with Balena Etcher, very simpl...

Re: What will happen to the usb i used to install the os

Hi. Yes, move the important files to the internal drive before you format the usb if you want to keep them safe because you will need to reformat the usb for use as a bootable drive and once you do those files are gone! Just a thought, maybe, buy another usb drive to use as your bootable drive or to...

Re: I have a Old Pc, Can i use mint?

Hi. I have a 10yr old hp, Intel dual core, 3gb & ssd running Mate very well. It'll run Cinnamon ok but that definitely uses more resources, so I went w/Mate. 4gb of ram is better, you might be ok. Definitely follow the Installation guide & definitely make a live boot usb drive if possible. As previo...

Re: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia

So I got this notification that this version is available. Can I upgrade without expecting some problems ? If you are already running 19.x (something) then it's an easy upgrade. If you're running something older than 19 then it's a bit more involved and you'll have to research how to go from an old...

Live Boot Suspend Problem on iMac

Hi. I'm able to live boot and running an older iMac on Cinnamon 19.3 (w/persistance) with little or no problems that I can detect except when resuming from Suspend mode. It will suspend ok but when resuming gives only a black screen. I basically have to reboot or just not use Suspend at all. I'm jus...

Re: Thunderbird Not Responding

You might try uninstalling and then reinstalling Thunderbird, just a guest on my part. You don't offer any info, i.e, when did problem start or has it always do this, system info, what distro you are running, etc? I suggest you open a terminal window and run inxi -Fzz, highlight all w/ctl A, copy an...

Re: Deleting Kernels

Yes, and I left off the suggestion to try UKUU, which is a tool for installing unsupported kernels and not something I'd recommend for a newcomer unless they have a very specific problem to solve (such as hardware that's too new to work with any of the supported kernels). Just a heads up. :) Thanks...

Re: Deleting Kernals

When I go to View > Kernals in the Update Manager, the remove button at lower right is grayed out and just sits there and laughs at me. If you select a kernel (there's no a in that word, BTW) and it can't be removed, then it's either active (being used) or not installed. In the latter case, there i...

I'm not in danger of running out of room anytime soon--my / partition is only 13.7% full--it's just having so many kernals I'm never going to need or even think about using cluttering up my computer is somewhat annoying. Re: Timeshift + USB install

Hi. I installed Mint around 9 months ago using a USB stick. Timeshift is running fine on the Linux mint box. Of course there have been some important mint version updates since then. One question that comes to mind, if I need to use Timeshift, say to re-install mint, it will let me do that from the...
