Re: PAR=

... I have been suggested to run a script with "PAR" in it, but I would have to modify it to fit my case, and I do not know how to change it after "PAR=". I do not how to change it since I have no idea of what it does and how. Ok, had you mentioned this in the first place, it would have given us a ...

Downloaded packages reside in one directory - /var/cache/apt/archives

If you haven't perform sudo apt-get clean or autoclean you'll find them there.

Re: rc.local issues / workaround doesn't allow notify-send?

Does the script run via root's crontab sudo crontab -e or local crontab crontab -e ? Educated guess is the former since your script requires elevated privileges to run successfully. IMSMR, when I needed to run a script as root and have to show a message to a non-root logged-in user via notify-send, ...

Re: bash script that calls nmcli fails when called by crontab

Add, at the appropriate place in your script, the snippet of code from the following thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=213&t=80823#p470422 It should aide you in troubleshooting what happens during those times the script doesn't work. Usually, a command encountered an error and err...

Re: Erase types in LibraOffice Writer (Linux Mint 17.2)

For user specific-fonts (fonts you installed locally), open the hidden .fonts folder in your home directory and remove the fonts you don't need. Once you're done, open a terminal window and enter the following to update the font cache:

Code: Select all

fc-cache -fv

Re: Zenity Forms - Insert Default Values?

Moved from Chat about Linux Mint. Zenity's limited when it comes to features, not only forms. You might want to migrate from zenity to YAD (Yet Another Dialog): yad --title="Enter New Record" --form \ --field="Artist": "Name of Artist" \ --field="Album": "Name of Album" \ --field="Date":DT "$(date ...

Re: Mint vs Ubuntu - Why Mint?

Re-quoting what I wrote a year ago: It all boils down to user preference, the GUI in particular. Those who prefer the traditional user interface over mobile/tablet-ish interfaces will find themselves at home with Mint (Cinnamon/Mate). At the end of the day, what you see on your screen is what you'l...

Re: Linux..... too expensive for me (in time)

I was going to spend a weekend installing Linux. ... I am very good at Windows, I use the computer for lots of advanced tasks, ... I imagine it took you several years' worth of experience to attain the skill level you have with Windows right now? You don't go from zero to advanced skill in one week...

Re: Key-binding/Launcher won't notify-send [SOLVED]

Or run notify-send as the original user within the original script: sudo -u scrognoid DISPLAY=:0.0 notify-send "Touchpad restarted." This is to assume scrognoid is the username which originally launched the script, and :0.0 is the current display number (which is the usual case, unless if the displa...

I'm writing a small script that will ... pop up and ask where you want to save something ... what the code is that creates this dialog ...
