Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Your last post still shows user as user in the fstab lines, should be veronica, which would explain most of your problems. Have you changed it?
are you talking about ksnip store path, if so no not yet. However, why does the Backups folder not show on the list in user like Pictures and Videos?

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Here is a capture and I have some strange things happening as when I went to save the capture to my Pictures folder ksnip said unable to save file but that was because I'd set the default save folder as /home/veronica/Pictures/Captures/ksnip_$Y$M$D-$T.png so will have to amend that. However, I was p...

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Hold on Andy, just seen I left the user as user instead of veronica. Will amend that now. Just done that and I did forget to save the stuff in Pictures and Videos but do have backups of the content. The last bit of fstab now looks like this. UUID=060456d0-5097-46da-9cd0-5e1095da89ca /home/user/Video...

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Something not right here. I found the UUID of the three partions, videos, Pictures and Backups and then opened FSTAB file as admin, added the three lines at the bottom to create this script. # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for ...

Golf in this weather? Although I have played in snow - starter said the course was open but thought we were mad. Yes that's what my wife said and we had everything today, snow, hail, rain, winds and sun! Came in with 37 points but only finished 4th out of 33, winner had 39 points and the last playe...

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Ahh... you're using two of the 'standard' folders, hadn't spotted that. I'm not sure what will happen. I do know if you delete them they will reappear on the next boot. Think smurphos posted recently on how to permanently get rid of them. Choices: Use different names for your new video and picture ...

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Hi Andy I have got my 128gb drive all setup with the distro as before and on the second, larger, 256gb drive I have three partitions ext4, 150gb for Videos, 50gb for Pictures and 56gb for Backups and all labled as such. Been tied up since mid-afternoon so have not been able to progress anymore today...

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Yes I found it Andy. Was looking at the folders instead of the files that were at the bottom. Regards my previous message, what do think about what I was suggesting? 128 Distro and 256 split into three partitions as suggested? I am happy to not partition the 128 SSD with the distro.

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Been doing some research on this Samsung PM871 SSD and I found out that it is a OEM SSD used by Dell for their PC's and it is OEM SSD based on the 850 Evo. The 871 series is made by Samsung for Dell. A very fast, state of the Art Oem SSD. This model cannot be purchased at a retail store. They were r...

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Not sure whether you are talking about re-purposing the 128G SSD or using the unallocated space on the 256G SSD? If the 128G SSD, use gparted to delete the existing partitions on it and create two new partitions for pictures and videos. Suggest ext4 and also suggest you add labels, e.g. pictures, v...

Advice on partition and data storage

I have just installed a Samsung 256GB 830 SSD on my media PC. This is replacing my older existing Samsung 128gb SSD. I cloned from the old SSD using CZ and now have the distro working fine on the Samsung 830. This is formatted as a 128gb partition with 128gb unallocated. I have been reading about so...

Re: Snapshots-Error with Timeshift

I have hooked up that Seagate HDD to my other Linux machine and set it as the default backup and tried to do a snapshot and once again it was being panned to take over 2 hours to do. Obviously there is a fault on this drive. I cancelled and set it back to my normal backup drive on the other machine ...

Re: Snapshots-Error with Timeshift

Right I have completed cloning to the new Samsung 830 and prior to that I had listed the stats on the machine with the old drive. veronica@veronica:~$ inxi -Fxz System: Host: veronica Kernel: 5.3.0-40-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 7.4.0 Desktop: MATE 1.22.2 Distro: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia ...

Re: Snapshots-Error with Timeshift

Hi Gitty I am currently cloning my Samsung 128GB SSH to my faster Samsung 256GB SSH and when this is done I am going to use the bigger drive as sda and all being well on booting will format my older smaller SSH as ext4 to use as backups (Timeshift). The 256 Seagate 256gb SATA HDD I will use as stora...

Re: Snapshots-Error with Timeshift

no do not stop the process, this takes a while as this is your first snapshot and original as i see from Changed: 1 Sorry trytip after waiting for three hours for this to complete I had to stop it. Re: Snapshots-Error with Timeshift

After you've done that, try changing the location, then change it back. AFAICT, Timeshift doesn't save the snapshot information anywhere. Rather, it seems to read the information off the Location. Changing the setting then changing it back might force Timeshift to rebuild the list. Indeed, I would ...

In Timeshift, click on Settings, then Location. Post back a pic of that.
This is showing the internal SATA HDD set up as location. This is the one that does not show any snapshots when opening Timeshift.

Re: Snapshots-Error with Timeshift

Just doing this now but it is taking a long time, saying it will be over an hour before it is done. It is late here now and will leave it running and check in the morning.
