Re: camera problems

No idea. Its not really a solution to your problem but have you tried using a card-reader instead? I'd alos recommend Rapid-Photo-Downloader... http://damonlynch.net/rapid/ for importing photos.

Anyone here used Remastersys?

I has anyone here used Remastersys to make their own distro? Reason I ask is I have a laptop that has a strange chip (Via C3 Nehemiah ) and it will not use any kernel after 2.6.20-16-lowlatency , which I had used in Freespire. This is a kernel bug and has been reported by others. However I still can...

Re: MintMenu: Flickering Menu after Install

I have seen something similar to this in Mint7 and Mint6, however, I haven't been able to create a 100% reproducible test case so I have never reported it. Sometimes, when I am moving up the menu with the mouse its as if the menu has got stuck between two categories and flicks back and forth betwee...

Just installed Karmic Koala and very unimpressed. The look hasn't changed since the last time I used it.. Hoary Hedgehog. Presentation is everything and Mint has that in spades (thank God).

More context needed: hardware, software In terminal, check inxi -F --short list of all hardware inxi -G --graphics card only inxi -H --help options for the inxi command It is unlikely that the problem is the system install of software or uodates --much more likely that the problem is the video driv...

Re: FSCK runs everytime on startup! Slows Boot time.

After reading your link and others it seemed to indicate that I had a problem with my harddrive. I couldn't mount an external drive that usually mounted fine so I decided to re-install. The re-install sorted a few problems for me. Thanks for your help.

FSCK runs everytime on startup! Slows Boot time.

Hi, for some reason fsck has started checking my pc everytime I boot up. Is there anyway to turn this off as it is really slowing the boot process. Thanks.

MintMenu: Flickering Menu after Install

When I install software on Gloria using either apt-get or Synaptic I get a strange problem. After installing I go to click on the new software and the menu goes all flickery like a flurescent lightbulb. Cannot select any category. I move the mouse pointer away from the menu and back again and everyt...

Re: If your scanner don't work

OK many scanners have crappy drivers .... Was a while since I experimented with this but loads of different scanners would not work in XP (hands on experience) Don't ask me for details - it was when I had my computer business and I do my best to forget it :) Fair enough. I won't try and torture you...

Re: Goodbye Vista & Windows 7. Hello Linux Mint!

I like Open Office. I wish it didn't try to make you register on install (it does on Windows, its usually installed by default in Linux!), but Office Writer does everything I want, and exports to PDF. I save everything as a PDF, and just email those. Everyone can print what I send and it will look ...

Re: If your scanner don't work

Remember that many scanners don't really work well under Windows either Thats a new one on me. I've seen crappy scanners and good scanners come with crappy software but they always work under Windows. I'd love to see Ubuntu work on getting support built into hardware (printers & scanners) for Ubunt...

Bumber stickers! yuk! I think thats mainly an American thing, don't see many people in Europe defacing their cars with bumper stickers. Now if it was a window static sticker thats a different storey :)

There is a great organisation in Ireland called http://Camara.ie that recycle old computers, install Linux on them and give them to African schools. Check them out.

Re: If your scanner don't work

My HP 5530C Scanjet doesn't work (has never worked under Linux) I'll eventually be replacing it as the glass has gone a bit foggy. What would be a good modern replacement that will work with Linux without messing about.

Cheers,
Rob
