I am not clear what the Linux Mint approach is. During installation it does not set a root password but after System Report warns to set a root password?
Is a weak password for root worse than no password?

Re: Administrator account capabilities
However if there are additional untrivial differences than the three I mention, that would be interesting to know.

Re: Administrator account capabilities
My intention is to learn what can be done while logged in as Administrator without knowing the password, that cannot be done while logged in as standard user with knowing the standard user password. I have learned these answers so far- adjust system wide time settings, install flatpaks, and do what ...

I apologize for my confusion. Do you mean that a standard user can install flatpaks?

I am wanting to understand more completely the difference between a Administrator account and a non-Administrator account. I hope this example explains my question, A black Linux Mint laptop and a silver Linux Mint laptop are on a desk and they are both already logged in. The black laptop is logged ...

Thank you for taking the time for me. I understand what you both mean for in the case of sharing a computer.

Re: When is the normal password asked for?
Interesting, I had thought you need to type in the root password to make changes to the system. I have another question. If the Administrator account is set to automatically log in and the person sitting at the computer does not know the password, is there anything they can do that they could not do...

Re: When is the normal password asked for?
Okay. I appreciate and listen to your advice. However I would like to understand this better please. When you install updates or use sudo and it asks you to type in the password, is it asking for the user account password or the root password? What is the difference between an Administrator account ...

When is the normal password asked for?
Does Linux Mint ask for the normal password at any other time than when you log in? I am the person to keep the computer updated and I help another person who will be the regular user of the computer. They need to know the password to log on to the computer. But I do not want them to be capable to i...

Re: Install to new SSD
I also find a post in another thread, The relatime has been the defaults since kernel 2.6.?. The relatime will not update the access time when you read a file just like the noatime mount option. However, the relatime will update the atime during a modify time update. The mtime and the atime should b...

Re: How does System Reports work?
No, it's not. Read my reply again, it's entirely unambiguous and not limited to upload buttons in the slightest. What I mean to say is what the app may or may not do in the background as it runs is a different part of it than the upload pastebin function. I did not fully understand that your reply ...

Re: How does System Reports work?
Not wanting to speak for the others but likely doing so, we were not defensive about the app, we were annoyed at you for either ignoring or twisting the answers you've been given here or which you found on the blog by Clem. No point in continuing a conversation on that basis. Remember people are vo...

Re: How does System Reports work?
Well, it seems to me you have three options: check its bloody source code, uninstall the bugger, or ask yourself whether you're being annoyingly paranoid. For an absolute answer if the developers do not write about it, yes I guess I would have to check the source code. However zcot already e...
