Re: How does System Reports work?
By the way, to my reading, his answer was perfectly clear. You're the one playing word games. I think his answer to that person was clear enough. That person sounded negative or paranoid talking about mother ships. I meant that I wished his answer was more detailed and universal to satisfy anyone w...

Re: How does System Reports work?
I wish he had written plainly. He did (from your link above): I would not recommend you run a software application, and even less so an operating system, if you’re not ready to trust the team behind it. Apparently you don't trust the Mint team. And I'm guessing you don't have the ability to review ...

Re: How does System Reports work?
No data is sent anywhere unless you ask it to. How do you know that? It would be good to hear the developers say that. A transparent description of how it operates would be very welcome. They could have included that in the news when they announced the feature. https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3802 I ...

Re: Install to new SSD
What pages? Links please.... Okay not page s page and correction it does not say it is default but it says you do not need it https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=257349#p1388792 there is no point to using noatime. It doesn't reduce the amount of SSD writes. Any article you've read that say...

Re: Install to new SSD
Number 7 on that page tells you to use noatime but I have read other pages that say noatime is already the default and you do not need to do this?Beerislife wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 3:17 amThis is a good page for SSD maintenance info:

Re: How does System Reports work?
I looked here https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_tricia_cinnamon_whatsnew.php It says In the documentation, the release notes and to some extent the welcome screen, we document broad issues which affect all users in general. With the system reports we're running a diagnostic which is specific to your com...

Re: How does System Reports work?
Not automatically, no. Where there are buttons for you to choose to upload, information gets uploaded to pastebin.com (as it tells you right in the application), for you to link in a bug report or on IRC. How does it determine which information is relevant to your computer? Does it do that locally?...

Re: UEFI Legacy Bios settings
In that case I would set the BIOS to UEFI only then install mint - just to make sure that mint installs in UEFI. Good idea. I will do that. But with Windows 7 hard drive unplugged. When done I'd set the BIOS to UEFI first so you don't have to faff around in BIOS every time you want to boot windows....

Re: UEFI Legacy Bios settings
Or ditch Win7 because end-of-life. But yes, even though your UEFI can do both it's usually easier to run all OS's via the same boot mode, so legacy in your case. The Windows 7 will run without internet access so the end of life doesn't matter. I will not be dual booting. And eventually I will remov...

Re: UEFI Legacy Bios settings
If win7 is installed in legacy mode, then I would install mint in legacy mode. I would rather not if I don't need to. If I can set the Bios settings so it can boot both then I don't need to. Consider I am not going to dual boot. I will unplug the Windows 7 hard drive and plug a solid state drive to...

Re: UEFI Legacy Bios settings
UEFI and Legacy is okay for Boot Mode Selection ? For Storage Boot Option Control the choice are: Disabled Legacy only UEFI only Legacy First UEFI First I think UEFI only would be the correct normal choice Except I also have a Windows 7 hard drive with MBR. I guess UEFI First will let Windows 7 boo...
