Re: Am Looking for Clientless Remote Desktop Sharing solutio

I tried it and it works, but a bit clunky for my tastes... It seems that this gives a sense of what's to come and that's a good thing. There is a chrome extension that is similar, that I tried https://www.webrtc-experiment.com/ that may be better for my needs...

Am Looking for Clientless Remote Desktop Sharing solution

I am working with a consultant who is not comfortable with using a plug-in based (e.g. Java or Flash) desktop sharing solution.. I often use Webex (via Windows) for this type of thing, or TeamViewer, but he's not keen on either solution. What's available that would allow me to share my entire screen...

Re: After 17.2 Upgrade, VPNs connect, indicator doesn't chan

I removed the network manager applet and now I get a different network manager in my tray that properly changes status. I think there is an issue with the panel applet.

After 17.2 Upgrade, VPNs connect, indicator doesn't change

I use several different VPNs with my 17.2 Cinnamon system (vpnc, openvpn, PPTP). Prior to upgrading, whenever I would connect to the VPN, the tray would show an indicator with lock on it, indicating that the VPN is connected. Since the upgrade, the network indicator show its normal status, regardles...

Re: How to make xrandr settings stick?

I use this script at startup: https://github.com/wertarbyte/autorandr I also use some xrandr commands that has as shortcut for when I want to switch modes on the fly... like: xrandr --output VIRTUAL1 --off --output DP3 --off --output DP2 --mode 2560x1600 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --output DP1 --off ...

Re: Linux online backup solutions

Crashplan http://www.code42.com/crashplan/ is another option... I've also used SpiderOak, but like the Crashplan paid plans better. CrashPlan also lets you try before you buy.

Re: Will a Mint image or backup load onto a new computer?

I have had good luck taking a hard drive from one Mint machine and simply putting it in another. IMHO it's worth a try. If you get a new machine with Windows installed, it's useful to put that hard drive on ice in case you want to sell it in the future. This way you can just put the original drive b...

Re: New laptop and Linux Mint

In my experience Lenovo Thinkpads just flat out work with Linux, including Ubuntu and Mint. I have an X230, previously an X201, previously an X61. FWIW my sense is that you'd be paying a premium to go with a Linux specific brand that may not be warranted. The big brands buy components in such large ...

I use CS2 all the time with 17.1, but have found that PlayOnLinux https://www.playonlinux.com/en/ is the most reliable way to run it for me.

How Do I Install a Low Latency Kernel on 17.1 for Use w/Midi

I want to do some Midi Notation and have been advised to install a low latency kernel.

I found these instructions here: http://www.upubuntu.com/2015/01/install ... 83-in.html but am wondering if this is a risky move?

Re: Clone to SSD?

I used Clonezilla all the time. It ain't pretty, but I almost always use the default settings and it is very reliable.

Good to have a LiveUSB of Clonezilla, but also a separate one for GParted.

Re: Clone to SSD?

+1 on Clonezilla. I've done both disk to disk and partition based cloning. It's easiest if the target SSD is the same size or larger than the original. If the SSD is smaller, you are going to need to shrink the partitions. Here's a blog post that describes how it's done. http://jsm-techblog.blogspot...

Good idea on Virtualbox. I will install Cinnamon and see what happens when I put XFCE on top of it.
