Do I bother Switching to UEFI from Legacy for New Laptop?

Was running an older Thinkpad X230 with Mint 19.2. I Frankensteined the SSD over to a new Thinkpad T480 that I changed the settings for, so that it booted to "legacy" only. I was hopeful that the machine would just boot, and indeed it did. No issues. Should I leave well enough alone, or should I con...

Is Different Text Scaling Possible Per monitor?

Running Cinnamon on 19.2.

I am using my laptop display as a secondary in a dual monitor set up. The laptop is @ 1920x1080 and it's pretty tight to look at. My external monitor would need different scaling. Is there a way to specify scaling per monitor?

Re: Can I get Higher Resolution via HDMI than 1920x1080

Thanks for reviewing this. I have a funny feeling that I have USB-C-->Displayport adapter in my future :-) xrandr --prop Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3840 x 1200, maximum 8192 x 8192 eDP-1 connected 1920x1080+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 309mm x 174mm EDID: 00fffffffffff...

Can I get Higher Resolution via HDMI than 1920x1080

I have a 30" Dell Monitor (U3011) that I'd previously used with Displayport from my Thinkpad X230 at a resolution of 2560x1600. I've just upgraded to a T480 which only has HDMI. I am using nothing other than the native driver per below and there no option in the display settings beyond 1920x1200. Is...

Moving my SSD to a New Machine and Migrating My Partition to

I bought a new Thinkpad that comes with a 256 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe drive. I have Mint 19.2 all configured to my liking on an existing Thinkpad on a 2.5" SSD. I would like to move the 2.5' SSD, and potentially use it as the secondary drive in the new machine; whereby I would migrate /home and / (currentl...

Re: My Rsync Cron Job is Not writing the log as intended

@coffee412 I stole some of your login and will report back. The cron was working, and also updating the log file, but not writing anything to it. I suspect the mods you suggested will fix that.

My Rsync Cron Job is Not writing the log as intended

Here's what's in my crontab: 00 0 * * * rsync -r -t --ignore-existing -s /run/user/1000/keybase/kbfs /home/kenny/.keybase_backup >> /home/kenny/Documents/rsync.log 2>&1 I would like for the log file to verify that the job ran and it actually did something, even if there was nothing new to backup. Wh...

Re: Add text & arrows to photos

Shutter is another option. While it's focus is on sceen capture, it has very good editing skills (better for annotation for me than Pinta). Also in the Software Manager.

Check out Loom https://www.loom.com/ There is no desktop app for Linux, but the browser extension works very nicely and does what you want.

Pcloud has worked great for me for me. It does require me to sign in again to launch it if I have not booted up the computer for awhile.
Are you running 19.2 Cinnamon? I am having issues since upgrading.

Re: Are You using PCloud? Are you having issues with their desktop software?

I suspect that they do not officially support it, but pCloud is one of the RClone remote options. I can confirm that I can completely interact with pCloud from RClone 1.49

Restart Service without Sudo

I am running a displaylink USB monitor that causes the cursor to be jumpy. This is a known problem with driver and the workaround is to just restart lightdm after login. I created a simple script to do this; however, I would like for this to NOT prompt for a password. Here's my script: #!/bin/bash s...

Are You using PCloud? Are you having issues with their desktop software?

I am on Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon and since the upgrade, the pCloud AppImage desktop program has been completely erratic and unreliable. It often disappears from the tray and becomes unresponsive. At the same time, I've been configuring RClone for use with Google Drive and S3 and getting to know its ...

Slow Boot 19.2 Cinnamon

My system has gotten super sluggish on boot, and was previously speedy under 19.1. I have an SSD with no SWAP. Also lots of RAM and an i7. Any recommendations are appreciated. P.S. looks like configure-printer@usb-003-008.service is not helping. I actually don't have a USB printer. How would I disab...

You keep digging you find stuff, and it seems that this user has taken a similar approach to what your advocating. I am going to try this: https://www.jamescoyle.net/how-to/3116- ... unt-script
