Persistent Mount of Rclone configured Cloud Drives

I used AWS S3 and Google Drive and have experimented enough to have a proper config on the rclone.conf for all my various Cloud storage. I would like to mount these various drives at start up. Just need a little more help regarding making it persistent, or at least start on its own. Where HR is my "...

Re: Laptop under $700 for Linux Mint in 2019?

I just bought a Thinkpad X230 with an i5 for less than $100US w/shipping. It didn't have a hard drive, but I installed a used SSD on it. The screen is not as good as a more modern one, but one can swap these out, or use it docked.

I found a Displaylink USB Monitor that works well with 19.2

I was looking for a secondary monitor for use with messaging apps, and wanted something that would work with USB and not require HDMI. DisplayLink devices were previously iffy with Linux, but the newer kernels make them usable. I had been looking for input on this to no avail, so am sharing in case ...

Re: Opinions on Bitwarden, 1Password or Other Alternatives to LastPass

Regarding LastPass, they made some changes to the extensions a while ago that made form fills very very iffy. Recently, when triggered from the browser (doesn't matter which one, or whether LM or Windows, the vault will not actually display. The contents are there, because I can see it on my phone. ...

My major concern is whether they will hold up business-wise over time... Opinions on that?

Opinions on Bitwarden, 1Password or Other Alternatives to LastPass

LastPass has really taken a nosedive in the last year. I need something that will:
1) take an export from LastPass
2) Work across my devices and browsers (Android, iOS, Mint, Windows, Firefox and Chromium)
I have been using LastPass for 10 years and I hate to jump ship, but it's that bad.

Headset Microphone Low in 19.2

Fresh install of 19.2, using a Jabra Link 370 USB dongle, with a Jabra Evolve 75 wireless headset. This was previously fine in 19.1. This fresh install is using: 5.0.0-25-generic. I've boosted the volume for the headset to 100. I have Qasmixer installed and am seeing this: https://i.ibb.co/TbXc72V/S...

Migrate VPN Settings to a New Machine

I have a fairly elaborate set of VPN configs (both OpenVPN and Cisco AnyConnect) that I'd like to transfer from one working machine to a fresh install of 19.2 Cinnamon. On the working machine, everything is handled via the GUI under VPN Connections. Is there a way to copy these? I'm owner of both ma...

iPad or Android Tablet as Secondary Monitor?

I have some apps that would do well to be on a second screen/desktop (e.g. Slack). I have and old 2nd gen iPad 10" and also a Nexus 7. Anyone have a good solution for this?

Re: Need Screencapture Software that Handles Scrolling Windows

Thanks PHD21.. I've tried many of these with limited success. In fairness to the developers, this is a hard problem to solve, especially if there are frames or iframes in involved. I like Nimbus for a variety of reasons, but it's tripped up on some use cases. And, it's really too bad about Shutter, ...

Re: Need Screencapture Software that Handles Scrolling Windows

What does "Handles Scrolling Windows" mean? What's the result, a movie, an image file bigger than the screen, etc? Yes, the contents of the window are bigger than what is visible on the screen. If you were interacting with the page or application directly, you would use the scrollbar to see the res...

Need Screencapture Software that Handles Scrolling Windows

This would be mostly for web pages (via Chromium but could live with Firefox), but desktop apps too. I love using Shutter, but it doesn't do this. I could live with a Chromium or Firefox extension, but a desktop app would also be good.

Do you have a solution for this?

Re: Removed Windows. Need help thinking through reclaiming space.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but did follow the advice of making a Macrium boot USB and cloned the existing drive to it. To be super safe, I pulled my drive and swapped in the clone, but was unable to boot from it. The partitions were there and readable, just a boot issue. I then tried to repai...

Startup of App in Workspace 2

I use Franz as a multiprotocol messaging app. I would like it to start in Workspace 2. In my system (19.1 Cinnamon), I have labeled this as "Messaging" Tried this from terminal (assuming I would write a script once I got it working) wmctrl -r "/opt/Franz/franz" -t 2 Also tried wmctrl -r "/opt/Franz/...

Re: Removed Windows. Need help thinking through reclaiming space.

I'm a Clonezilla fan, and I do have a somewhat stale whole drive image from a few months ago. I did try to Clone the whole drive multiple times and ran into issues with NTFS drives, in spite of having run chkdsk /f them after the fact. These are synced versions of Google Drive folders, so I may just...

Re: Removed Windows. Need help thinking through reclaiming space.

FYI: I used Minitool Partition Wizard from a bootable CD/DVD disc I made from an iso file that I downloaded off the Internet. I did not have Ms windows installed at that time either and did not need to. The link below has links to their iso file. [Solved] Program that can copy data off an non-mount...

Re: Removed Windows. Need help thinking through reclaiming space.

phd21 suggested using MiniTool Partition Wizard to convert the logical partitions to primary partitions and that it was pretty painless. This would be simpler and the layout of the partitions should not matter to GRUB. MiniTool can also resize/move partitions. Converting MBR to GPT would add compli...

Re: Removed Windows. Need help thinking through reclaiming space.

I'm working my way through this carefully (partially a learning exercise)... I've created new partitions in the front of my disk to reclaim the space. I have NOT yet copied or used DD to migrate existing / and home to the reclaimed space because I used this as an opportunity to grow the size of the ...

Re: Removed Windows. Need help thinking through reclaiming space.

Backup all data before performing operations. Timeshift by default only backup system files. In live session, use GParted to create primary partitions at the front of the HDD. Then use DD to clone / sda7 and /home sda8 to the new partitions. You will most likely need to update GRUB to pick up the i...
