Re: Help Chromium wont play any videos

if you're already using the Google ecosystem (which most people are with Gmail and Youtube and Android) If you do not care about privacy, it is your decision. But where did you ask the OP about that matter? This is especially true in this case, where the problem has obviously nothing to do with fla...

Re: Screen goes black and locks screen

Check System Settings > power management and try disabling screen off from there. Also make sure in Screensaver Settings the first three settings are Off, Off, Never. Alternately, if you DO want the screensaver to come on/lock or screen to turn off, you could install Caffeine to disable power manage...

Re: Help Chromium wont play any videos

I don't think it's unacceptable to suggest Chrome over Chromium. Performance-wise its no different, and if you're already using the Google ecosystem (which most people are with Gmail and Youtube and Android) , it is much more convenient. Some people just want things to work the way they're used to, ...

Re: Help Chromium wont play any videos

Have you tried downloading Chrome and playing videos in that? Is there a reason you use Chromium instead of Chrome?

Re: Mint install overwrote Windows

Glad you're sorted out. The / partition is where the system is installed, equivelent to C:\Windows and C:\Program Files, and /home is where all your user data and program settings are, as well as documents, pictures, etc, equivalent to My Documents, My Downloads, Documents and Settings etc in Window...

Re: Mint install overwrote Windows

Everything looks fine partition wise, Windows is still on its partition, Mint is on its partition, which was split during setup into /, /home and swap. The /home partition looks way too small though, not sure why you did 4gb for /home then over 7gb for swap. Try running sudo update-grub and restarti...

Same errors with a new user, same errors on a live boot. Took a screenshot of the live system errors.

Re: Can't install extra online optionals from settings (themes, applets, etc)

I can get there with my browser. I'm not sure if it looks how it is supposed to though. Also, I've "tried later" this has been an ongoing issue since I first installed, over 2 weeks ago.

Re: Can't install extra online optionals from settings (themes, applets, etc)

That didn't work. It did what it usually did, made a little progress then throwing up a bunch of those errors before it finished.

Can't install extra online optionals from settings (themes, applets, etc)

Running Cinnamon Mint 17.3 x64. I had this same issue with 4 different clean installs of the same version on the same computer. Everything else works fine, except I cant retrieve lists of extra stuff from online. It starts refreshing the cache, makes some progress, then throws up dozens of error mes...

Re: Black screen instead of splash screen when booting

Could be, but curious why it would start doing that now. It's a laptop, and previous versions of Mint and other distros never had this issue. It isn't a huge priority, I'm still happy with Mint 17.3 and don't regret dropping W10 at all. I'll just bump this once in awhile to see if anyone can think o...

Re: Black screen instead of splash screen when booting

Screen still went black for most of the bootup time, although verbose mode flashed on the screen for a split second after everything had loaded right before my desktop loaded.

Re: Black screen instead of splash screen when booting

Thanks for the reply. The line already had quiet splash in it. After quiet splash it says $vt_handoff. I removed quiet to try verbose mode, and screen went black until booted into desktop still. I tried both splash and quiet splash after $vt_handoff in the line, still black screen until desktop. The...

Black screen instead of splash screen when booting

I'm running Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64, and am having this issue when booting. When I turn on or restart my computer, after the bios info the screen turns black until Mint is fully booted up then it goes straight to the desktop. In the past there was always a nice looking splash screen with a Mint logo (...

Re: What mobile operating system do you use?

I use Omnirom, a modded Cyanogen ROM specifically for my phone so I can run Android 4.4.4, since my old phone phone isn't officially supported past 4.1.2. Also using a custom kernel with ram boost, fast charge and an OC (1.4 ghz max vs 1 ghz max on a single core CPU.)

Re: chrome: enter password to unlock your login keyring

It's not an error, it's a feature. It's a password manager/encryption if you have multiple users on the computer. If you want to get rid of it, simply do the following: in Terminal, type "seahorse" (no quotes) to bring up the passwords/keys settings. On the left pane, under Passwords, right click on...
