Re: Change refresh rate - Cinnamon

Thanks for the suggestion. The package manager didn't show any results for fglrx so I'm installing it from terminal using

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdcccle fglrx-dev

Re: Change refresh rate - Cinnamon

On laptops and/or LCD/LED panels, the screen refresh rate is first limited by the display panel. Usually it is 60Hz at max resolution and highest color depth on most consumer products. However you can try to alter and optimize the automatic settings made by Xorg. Please post the content of /var/log...

Re: Change refresh rate - Cinnamon

when you are online with this Dell go to control center, driver manager and check if additional drivers are vailable. Clicked on Driver Manager, it brought up a window with two buttons, "revert" and "apply changes" which are both greyed out. It also says "no proprietary drivers are in use" at the b...

Re: More of a general Linux question.

Mint is great, but I wouldn't be happy with the performance on a single core. On anything less than a dual core with at least 1GB ram, I'd run Damn Small Linux. Super fast, small footprint, very customizable (including UI). Worth looking at at least.

Change refresh rate - Cinnamon

Recently installed LM 17 Cinnamon 64 bit on my laptop, a Dell Studio XPS. I want to increase the refresh rate, because whenever the screen moves (mouse, windows, video, etc) it's very blurry. I have the default linux drivers installed for the video card, an ATI 4670M. The current ATI drivers don't s...

Re: i'm making a wallpaper and need some ideas

Models look good, and I agree, composition is the tough part. Were you set on including both logos in the wallpaper? Most people would want one or the other, my advice would be find a good lighting/background/materials setup you like and use it for each one separately, appealing to a larger audience.

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad T400 virtualization fails despite BIOS s

The processor in your laptop (Core 2 Duo P8600) supports VT-x but not VT-d (Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O.) The bios has the option becasue it is used in other computers that do support VT-d.

Re: No Wireless

Try adding one of the unsecured wireless connection manually, and set it to connect automatically. All you need is the ssid, and when its added, it should connect automatically.

I have this same issue, I selected the Windows XP driver from the ndiswrapper tool, it said hardware detected, but there's no lights on the usb stick, and no wireless option in Mint.

Not to be a dick or anything, but you are using, altering and republishing other people's intellectual property, most likely without permission. As an example, this wallpaper here http://s799.photobucket.com/albums/yy280/grandpalittlefield/Linux%20wallpapers/?action=view¤t=Nightfly.jpg is a de...

Re: What's wrong with my CPU?

I'm pretty sure the BIOS does not need updating since it worked fine before. All the pins and jumpers are fine and have never been touched. Everytime I change it to 1533 MHz from 1150 MHz, the computer freezes within a few minutes, and when I restart, the BIOS tells me the system is hanging because...

Re: When will I have to upgrade my CPU

If you want to extend the life of your motherboard, I would recommend upgrading the stock cooling on the north bridge, as that is usually the first thing to go, and it runs hot. Cheap boards always skimp on the cooling for it, and even when they have fans, they fail eventually too, which will lead t...

Re: OGM playback

Regardless of which player I was using, the CPU usage was always 4-6%, and the memory between 12-30 MB. The system monitor itself was using about 10% of the CPU, so I don't think its being bogged down. Thanks for trying to help, I'll just try converting them to another format that hopefully doesn't ...
