Re: Having transmission write to another hard drive

It is just a partition of my hard drive, but when i type in what you said this is what it replies: “cannot access `/yourdatadrive': No such file or directory” Please, please forgive me for insulting your intelligence with what I am about to ask, but: you did not literally type "/yourdatadrive" in t...

Because the "improved" Firefox leaves one tab open all the time. Always. It can no longer be closed.

Re: Firefox fixed at last!!

Opera also has squat for extensions. And if you don't need extensions, Chrome loads pages faster than Opera anyway.

Re: Having transmission write to another hard drive

Just so I understand you correctly: are you talking about an external hard drive or a partition of your existing hard drive? If it's the former, you can change the permissions of the drive from Terminal pretty easily with: sudo chmod -R 777 /yourdatadrive If it's the latter, you shouldn't be prompte...

Helena's mintUpdate, on Gloria

I really love Helena's mintUpdate - specifically, being able to remove certain packages from the update list. However, I prefer using Gloria. Is it possible to install and run Helena's mintUpdate on Gloria?

More helpfully, could you take a screenshot of your System Monitor and show us what these immortal processes are?

Re: Having transmission write to another hard drive

If your data drive containing your torrent files is password-protected, this might be why they won't start automatically when you open Transmission. I've never tried this myself, to be honest, but it does sound like the issue. The only solution that I can think of - apart from manually starting each...

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

As a resonably new Linux user there is one thing I have not been able to figure out, maybe someone can explain it. I began using Mint 7 about a week after it's release, I was amazed that everything, and I do mean everything worked. It recognized my Windows network, printers, wireless connections, j...

Left4Dead 2 in WINE

See Updates below for results so far. I've been clicking around looking for information on how to run Left4Dead 2 in WINE. From what I understand, there's a bug where the game's intro movie will run, but it will then crash at the menu. I tried this out, and it didn't work for me. However, I did mana...

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

@jackshit

Fortunately the Mint team is usually excellent at straightening out bugs, missing pieces and issues before Ubuntu gets around to it. So chances are, your issues and more will be taken care of here before Ubuntu will. In my experience that's pretty much been the case.

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

I found a very easy fix to the "You battery might be broken" pop-up. Open Terminal and type gconf-editor Then go to gnome-power-manager>notify>and uncheck the boxes labelled "low_capacity" and "perhaps_recall". These warnings are just for broken batteries. You will still get notifications when your ...

Re: SOLVED. ZTE modem on Helena(or maybe not!)

I haven't tried that, and as I've been Googling around, I'm finding all kinds of different potential fixes, which is never a good sign - it means there is likely not a universal solution but a multitude of different possible fixes that I'll need to try, one by one. Well, I'll try your solution when ...

Re: SOLVED. ZTE modem on Helena(or maybe not!)

Funny you should post this. I had no problem using my little Huawei device in Gloria, but now, I get this: http://i48.tinypic.com/nvz9xg.png I'm currently using it right now, with the Gloria Live CD. I will try your first solution. If that doesn't work, I'll try your second one. EDIT: Alright, neith...

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

Begging your pardon, but the point of this thread is what, then? Just to praise the operating system? I'm more than happy to post in Support, but I was under the impression this a thread for discussing Helena. EDIT: Sorry if that came across as snappy. I've already found a relevant thread with a pos...

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

I only really have two complaints about the system: 1) It cannot seem to detect a mobile broadband connection. At all. Whenever I try to connect via mobile broadband, I get the following error message: http://i48.tinypic.com/nvz9xg.png 2) Every single time I sign in, I get this pop-up warning me tha...

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

Yeah, actually saw the stable release this morning in the UK mirror and went for that. Absolutely love it. One small caveat: the latest version of Cairo Dock is having problems with Mint 8. Haven't seen anyone on Ubuntu talking about Cairo Dock problems in 9.10, but then again I didn't check real ha...
