Re: Linux Mint 8 RC1 Bug Thread

Loving 8 so far, but I'm having issues with Cairo Dock. Once installed, the "do you want OpenGL or not?" message keeps coming up, over and over, no matter how many times I choose yes or no.

Re: Possible Future Mint Browser???

Thanks, RichardH. That actually looks pretty similar to how Firefox runs for me. This is mostly because I run it in sooper-sneekie mode, i.e., no history, no saved passwords, no cache, etc. There are some extensions I cannot do without. Compact Menu, Add to Search Bar, Adblock and Customize Google s...

Re: Possible Future Mint Browser???

Yeah, I hope that extensions adding lag doesn't end up being the case for the stable release of Google Chrome for Linux, whenever that may be (current version I have installed - from an update a couple hours ago - is 4.0.237.0). They can be resources-heavy, depending on what you use. There are a num...

Re: Possible Future Mint Browser???

RichardH: SeaMonkey is a Mozilla Corporation browser, and I love Firefox. But for me Firefox can hover anywhere between 80 to 140MB, depending on what I'm doing, e.g., browsing a few forums, YouTube, Photobucket, etc. What's the difference in CPU usage that you've seen, exactly, between Firefox and ...

Re: Possible Future Mint Browser???

Actually, I've been fairly satisfied with the unstable release of the Google Chrome for Linux (.deb file for 32-bit systems) browser. I use it as my secondary. The pros and cons with it, for me, are: PROS: Set-up is easy, and imported all my /.mozilla data with one click and no errors. Loads pages v...

Re: KDE 4.2.4 moved to backports, update required

Well this is interesting. I went into /etc/apt/sources.lst and this is what I see: ## --------------------- ## LINUX MINT REPOSITORIES ## ----------------------- ## +++ Linux Mint 7 Gloria (stable) +++ deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ gloria main upstream import ## +++ Backports (not as stable) ++...

Thanks, DrHu, that was really helpful. Things are running very smoothly now - dare I say, comparable to Compiz.

OK, as I said in the other thread, I just switched to Gloria KDE, and I really love it. You all did a great job. The only thign that's bothering me is the Look and Feel portion of the Systems Settings seems to have no effect whatsoever on my machine. I have the 180 nvidia driver installed and am us...

Whoops! What did I do to the terminal? [Resolved]

Hey all. Switched to Gloria KDE recently. After opening /etc/bash.bashrc and commenting out /usr/games/fortune, I now get the following message when I open my Terminal: bash: /etc/bash.bashrc: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token `(' bash: /etc/bash.bashrc: line 1: `as# System-wide .bashrc fil...

Re: MintUpdate Problems

Furthermore, when attempting the Computer Janitor, I get an message saying that it couldn't properly clean the files because there was an error in /usr/bin/dpkg. So I'm guessing the problem runs deeper than postgresql.

Re: MintUpdate Problems

Before you suggest it, yes, I have tried uninstalling and re-installing. If you need the package you are installing, you will have to work out the dependencies --and the obvious way is simply to install the various package names being detected as missing due to dependency problems --and do it in th...

I've got sound, but mic isn't detected

Can't really figure out what the problem is here. I have an HP dv6775 with an HDA Intel - ALC268 sound driver, and while sound works fine from the system, videos, music and apps, the microphone is simply not being detected at all. This is kind of a pain for me as I'd love to start using Skype, so an...

Re: MintUpdate "Error in checkAPT.py"

I did find a solution to this problem, though: I went into /var/lib/apt/lists and removed the offending file from the directory. To be on the safe side, I opened this directory in root and moved the file to Trash instead of flat-out deleting it. This made both MintUpdate and Synaptic work.

Re: MintUpdate "Error in checkAPT.py"

I can't refresh the list of packages anymore, as I'm getting this "Error in checkAPT.py" message when I check the Information setting of MintUpdate. My first thought, reinstall the offending application: mintupdate , synaptic makes that fairly easy (package manager) Ah, funnily (actually not so fun...

I can't refresh the list of packages anymore, as I'm getting this "Error in checkAPT.py" message when I check the Information setting of MintUpdate. There's this thread on the subject but the solution confuses me. Can someone shed some light on this?
