Skype: Others Can See My Cam, I Can't See Theirs (Solved?)

This only started happening a few days ago. Audio works fine with Skype 2.1 for Linux, and other people can see me, but I cannot see their webcams or see my preview. It's just a black screen. I'm running an HP dv 6775, with a built-in webcam. Any ideas would be helpful. And before anyone suggests it...

Re: Which Linux version is best for Skype

I think it's more a question of which version of Skype is best for Linux. I'm running LMDE, and Skype 2.1 for Linux works flawlessly on that, as it did on Mint 9 and Mint 8.

Regarding Gmail, Python and Passwords

I have Conky running the following Gmail script: import os import string #Enter your username and password below within double quotes # eg. username="username" and password="password" username="<my user name>" password="<my password>" com="wget -O - https://"+username+":"+password+"@mail.google.com/...

Ha, thanks, but nah - I'm just a script kid at this stage. Still learning how to tinker with Python. :P

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

So I uh, recently went a little crazy with Conky. Debian repos have a nice little weather.util package, and I found a script for displaying the phase of the moon. Click for full-size:

Re: Conky Showoff thread

For the few of you who might be interested, there's a tiny little (1.1Kb) script you can run which will display the phase of the moon in Conky without having to install conkyForecasts. First, create an executable file in home/[user name] and name it moon.py The script is as follows - the original di...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

I have the same issue with conky and my nvidia Card, can't seem to get it to work. :( But good work around. I will have to keep that in mind. :) Actually just opened mainscreenlet.py and poked around, turned out that this works for me now, to get temperature to display in Conky: ${nvidia temp}°C

That is one fine looking Fluxbox. I'm a sucker for darker themes.

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

I've never seen anyone make KDE look that good. That's amazing work. This is my new one, on LMDE, with an added Screenlet solely for temperature, because I can't seem to work out how to add that into Conky. Re: Linux Mint Debian (201009) released!

A lot of these things are easily taken care of through a quick Google search - much like starting out with any other distro for the first time (gdebi not installed, for example: dpkg -i [filename.deb]) and Chrome for Linux is in the Package Manager. And so on. I think that having come from the Ubunt...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Very nice red-e-made, love how you left the wallpaper centered and black on the left and right for your conky and icons. Also excellent wallpaper. How are you liking LMDE? Again nice work and thanks for sharing this work of art. :D I'm loving LMDE. Takes longer to boot (45 seconds til sign-in, then...

Re: Linux Mint Debian (201009) released!

Been trying out Linux Mint Debian on LiveUSB and I'm pretty impressed. One question though: I can't seem to make the LiveUSB persistent. The option does not appear on Start Disk Creator, so I was wondering if there was a way to do this through Terminal. PS: Before you ask, I added 4GB of extra space...

Prevent Pidgin Pop-Ups? FIXED

I haven't been able to find in the Preferences of Pidgin where I can disable the pop-ups of IM conversations from Pidgin, even when I've minimized the chat window. I'm thinking this is more a system thing. Any suggestions?
