Thanks, scorp. I'm not a gamer, so everything else looks great to me. As for a strange placement of keys, that's not really an issue for me, either. I often have to type in three different languages, so I can shift gears with relative ease in that case. Well, I'm off to download 3.0 and then head to...

You be the judge!

OK guys, following scorp123's advice in this thread regarding LinuxMint on laptops, I've done some cursory looking-around in my area to see what they have. I took down the options available and cross-referenced them with laptops that have been tested successfully with Linux (according to this site )...

Usually yes. Especially if it is a newer version of the same distro or "related" one. So if e.g. one laptop works with Ubuntu 5.04 than it should also work with later versions 6.06, 6.10 and 7.04; it should therefore also work with e.g. Linux Mint 3.0 (which is based on Ubuntu 7.04) and Debian 4.0 ...

Sorry if that seems like an obv...

Re: Hardware Question 3-Parter

Also check this page: http://www.linux-laptop.net/ It has a nice database of laptops brands & models that are known to work with Linux. Excellent advice all around, thanks. I'll be sure to carefully shop and scope before buying anything. My only other question was, as a brand-new Linux user, will I...

Hardware Question 3-Parter

Hey all. I'm about to buy a new laptop and have been very impressed with what I've read about LinuxMint 3.0. What I want to know is: does the laptop I plan on purchasing meet the system requirements for LinuxMint 3.0? Here are the stats: ACER TM2483 WXMi Processor: Celeron M430 1.73GHz RAM: DDR 2 51...
