Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

In fairness, the KDE panel usually autohides behind a window. It reappears when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen. The KDE panel can also be resized.

KDE was a little too bloaty for me, but it does have a lot of customization options.

Re: Partition Weirdness [Resolved]

Discovered a solution: backed up /home on my data partition, restarted through my LiveCD, opened my partition editor, deleted my /home partition, right-clicked Swap and selected "Swap Off", grew what was /home to fill the space, made it a New Partition in ext3, swapped Swap back on, restarted, doing...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Well, I made the switch to XFCE and I'm glad I did. Here's my new desktop. Click the image for full-size:

EDIT: Decided I liked Conky better in the upper-right.

Re: Conky Showoff thread

Well, I guess I'd be one of the "Linux newbies" vrkalak is talking about. I've been using Mint since Cassandra, but if a newbie is someone who's always learning and asking questions, then I fall solidly under that category. Anyways, after clicking around gnome-look (surprisingly few xfce conky confi...

Excellent, Husse, thanks to you and Clem. Wanted to see if anyone else was having this issue, but I will also PM in the future.

Glad it ain't just me. Chances are it's a server thing, and our team will have this sorted in short time.

Re: mintUpdate trouble - is this upstream?

By the by, I ran sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf and then sudo apt-get update and everything went smoothly, until it got to packages.linuxmint.com, at which point it hung at the 99% mark, and then gave the following message: W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/gloria/Release.gpg ...

mintUpdate trouble - is this upstream?

mintUpdate can't seem to connect, no matter how many times it's refreshed.

Is this something on the Mint end, or something further upstream?

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

vrkalak: I'm going to install Mint 7 XFCE today. What's that horizontal system monitor thingy at the top of your screen? It looks really nice.

Edit: Ah, Conky, of course. Thanks!

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Oo, an XFCE user! Looks nice. I should give that another shot someday.

Anyways, been a while since I posted here, so here's mine. Click for full version:

Re: Partition Weirdness

I guess I don't *need* to solve it, but as I said in the first post, I wanted to know if there was a way to resolve this. If that answer is "yes", then I'd like to know the solution. If that answer is "no", alright. Kind of like the way every other thread about a non-crucial issue is.

Re: Partition Weirdness

I have a disk like that as well. Strangely the unallocated size is almost the same as yours. And I have the same symptoms. I even tried deleting the existing partitions and recreating them - it still came back. I just live with it now. Wow. I'm glad you told me this ahead of time before I backed up...

Partition Weirdness [Resolved]

OK, check this out: http://i48.tinypic.com/177lw8.png Do you see this? 7.84MBs that are just stuck there. I can't move /home to the left, I can't grow /root to the right, I can't delete it. I know it's not taking up any more space than a single music track, but it bugs me to see it there. How do I g...

Re: Having transmission write to another hard drive

Good morning Don't worry I'm really not computer savy. I'm not quite shore what your asking. Basically what i did was open the terminal and copy and pasted: sudo chmod -R 777 /yourdatadrive Ah, I see. In that case, what you need to do is replace "/yourdatadrive" with the actual path to your data pa...

Re: Oblivion on mint

Oh hey, I'm playing that game, too. You will need: WINE v.1.1.33 PlayOnLinux That's all it took for me to get it running. WINE v.1.1.34 couldn't get it running, nor could 1.1.32. EDIT: To elaborate - if you don't already have WINE 1.1.33, uninstall the version you have, and then download 1.1.33, bot...

Re: How to kill what can't be killed ?

Not to sound like a broken record: I know you can't will it to happen, but if the next time this happens you could take a screenshot of the Processes tab of your System Monitor, that could go a long way in getting to the root of this problem.
