Re: Intel Graphics - screen problems

Hi, yes the problems seem to have been only when the display was 1440*900. It's now on a lower resolution without the flickering and shutting down screen. I am using an Acer Travlemate 3040, hooked up to a monitor Acer AL1916w with native 1440*900. I set the display settings to have the laptop scre...

Re: Intel Graphics - screen problems

Perfectly understandable.

What is the native resolution of your display?

The flicker only occurs when the resolution is set for 1440x900?

Re: Desktop Animations not working, Mint 7 KDE 4.2

Odd... Envy does not open up an application window. It basically opens up a root password request, which I type in, and then it just does nothing. So I go back and click EnvyNG again, and it has the little bouncing icon, and even puts a bar in the task manager. But no application window pops up, an...

Re: flickering screen

I was hoping you were having problems with an ATI graphics card, since I've managed to get mine working nicely even though it doesn't have support from the manufacturer directly anymore. So, I managed to find this over at Ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582 It's not begin...

Re: flickering screen

By flicker, do you mean the screen turns off then on? Or you get little lines of static on the screen?

What graphics card are you using? Can you tell which drivers you have installed?

In a terminal, type lspci and it will list all of your hardware. You can get the graphics card from there.

Re: Desktop Animations not working, Mint 7 KDE 4.2

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro FX 2700M (rev a1) That would be my video card, according to this (and the sticker on my computer agrees, heh) That's good that they agree! :D OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer Seems to be what I get back from glxinfo | grep &quo...

Re: Desktop Animations not working, Mint 7 KDE 4.2

I'm not sure what either of these are yet, heh. Where is envy on the menus/outputs/DRI? I am actually getting fairly used to Linux still, I am a recent Windows XP convert that has refused to move to Vista and don't really want to pay for software anymore if it's just not as good. Love Linux, but I ...

Re: Enable Compiz effects?

you might as well stop trying for Compiz, as ATI has dropped support for your graphics card. I've gotten things working as I described here (with my "legacy ATI card" 8) ) : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7735361#post7735361 I also updated the kernel, which may or may not play a...

Re: Dolphin not showing different icons

It looks like you are trying to use the Gorilla icons? Is that right? Maybe it doesn't have all the icons defined (or you have specified a size for the icons that the set doesn't include). Try changing the icon size either in the Dolphin settings or from System Settings -> Appearance -> Icons. You c...

Re: Enable Compiz effects?

There's a way to "test" your configuration to see if it will run the effects. It's supposed to tell you what's wrong if they aren't working.

Re: Desktop Animations not working, Mint 7 KDE 4.2

See if you can enable the restricted drivers using Envy. Also, check the output of glxinfo | grep "renderer" If you see something with DRI in it, you should be able to use desktop effects. If it says something like "software renderer", you have something wrong with your xorg conf...

Re: New user-how to extract file

What is the file type / extension? Try right clicking the file and look for "Extract" in the menu.

You should be able to install the flash player from Synaptic, though it should have been installed already when you install Mint.

Re: WiFi worked, reinstalled Mint, now it doesn't

If there is a switch to turn the wireless on/off, turn it off, then back on, then completely shut down the computer. Then, restart the computer. Note, do not just restart the computer from the Menu -> Restart. Completely shut it down, then turn it on again. See if the wireless works. Also, post the ...

Re: Newbie knows he will mess up how to uninstall and reinstall

I've already done this a couple of times myself. The easiest I have found is to boot into the install disk, choose "Just run the installer". Select your language, keyboard layout, and time zone. When you get to the partition stage, choose the third option, which is something like "Man...

Re: Wireless Connection Constantly Dropping

Yes - the KDE NM is still no good - as soon as it's ok we will change I did not notice any major inconsistency in the looks, but I haven't looked for some time so.... I probably should have been more clear with what I meant by "looks out of place". What I mean is, the notification that po...

Re: Wireless Connection Constantly Dropping

Mint 7 KDE does not use KNetwork Manager it uses Gnome Network Manager because of problems with wifi. Boo will provide the fix for Broadcom in the final release of Mint 7 KDE. KNetwork manager works in Mint 6 KDE. Is the final release of Mint 7 KDE going to use KNetwork Manager, or will it continue...

Re: I need a little help please!!

THANKS for all your help.. and I'll take your advice and hang about a bit...see if a kde expert can shed any light on this, I'm sorry to have wasted your time..for such a foolish thing. Rix I'll definitely not call myself an expert, but you should be able to just reinstall the KDE package using Syn...
