Re: installation problem with software manager

Is that what's in that file? That is the same error message you posted in your original post.

Re: installation problem with software manager

According to this thread at ubuntuforums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=653495

You should try

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Try it twice. Apparently they had success after trying the second time.

Re: installation problem with software manager

Try this: Open the package manager. In the lower left, find the "Custom Filters" button and click it. Select the "Broken" filter from the upper left section. That filter should list all of the broken packages on your system. You should be able to right click the packages and choo...

Re: installation problem with software manager

Open a terminal and run the command you were told to run:
sudo dpkg --configure -a

That should repair (configure) all the packages you have installed and correct the problem.

Re: what does this mean

It means you need to open a terminal window and enter this command: sudo dpkg --configure -a Enter your password (you should be prompted in the terminal window right away). That command will try and fix all the packages that were broken by your stalled update. After that's done, restart and see if e...

Re: Error on first boot/install

You must have bought a bad batch or the wrong type (CD R, CD R+, CD R/W, etc). I find that hard to believe though. :(

Re: Error on first boot/install

Here's the boot options for OS X 10.5. Looks like holding "c" will get the Mac to boot from the CD. You can also use the Option key to choose partitions/drives. You hold the key down while the little timer is on the screen before you get to the login screen. The disc MAY boot on the Mac si...

Re: Multiple Desktops

Are you using Gnome, KDE or XFCE (or some other window manager / desktop environment). They all do it slightly different, but most of them make the settings available in the System Settings.

Re: Error on first boot/install

I meant that whatever CD drive you were first trying to use might be bad, since you kept getting errors when you burned then ran the disc on it or when you ran a disc you burned from another CD drive.

Did you try to run the disc you burned on the Mac ON THE MAC? Try to run the Live CD on the Mac.

Re: Error on first boot/install

Does this disc run on the Mac? Just run the live CD, don't try and install.

I'd wager that your drive on the PC is bad.

I'll be honest that I've never actually tried to run the live CD as a live USB, so I'll give this a try later tonight and let you know if I hit any roadblocks and how I might have sorted them out.

Re: Jumping Cursor/Insertion Point While Typing

I doubt a driver will be available any time soon. In the time I have owned my laptop (2 years), there's only been one driver update for the touchpad and I recall it being a while ago. But, you might find this tutorial handy. It describes how to turn off the touchpad when you are typing. How to make ...

Yahoo must be using a more strict interpretation of the user agent. The Firefox user agent has two components: the version of Gecko (the rendering engine) and the version of Firefox. They should be using the Gecko version but they don't. Here's what the UA for Minefield (Firefox trunk development) l...

Re: Folder View Widget moves and resizes every login

Hm i had that problem too. The following worked for me. Remove the folder-widget from the desktop. Logout, Login. Put the folder-widget back to the desktop, to the place you want it to be and change the size to the one you like. Don't do anything else just, logout, Login. In my frustration, I must ...

Re: Folder View Widget moves and resizes every login

It's not the order of the icons in the desktop folder, it's the actual placement and size of the plasmoid/widget that keeps changing on me. I've got three plasmoids besides the panel on the desktop and only this one moves. If I get ambitious, I'll try wiping out all of the widgets and starting over,...

Re: HOWTO: Switch compiz-fusion on/off in GNOME easily

An excellent guide! Thank you much! I too have one of the ATI cards. I've installed the latest ATI and radeon drivers from Tormod Volden's PPA and they have made things much better (no more screen crackle). https://launchpad.net/~tormodvolden/+archive/ppa However, when I log in, the number of deskto...
