hydrurga thanks for your input I'm new to linux and I have thought about dual booting but have been put off by some of the comments about problems arising from dual booting.

Thank you for your reply I belive I have done what you suggested with the exception 'allow it 256mb VRAM' I cannot see how this is done. Maybe I should add that I have not had any problems running other VM's

Gents have run run the update manager as suggested above to upgrade from the beta version of Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” Cinnamon Edition however it just comes back with system up to date. would appreciate any suggestions and thanks in advance

Thanks for the suggestion Ive looked everywhere even in gnome keyboard shortcuts all point to CTRL ALT SHIFT R being the shortcut to both start and stop screen recording but that combination doesn't work for me maybe the is the term key 'binding' got altered some how.

Ive found one thing that starts the recording if I highlight a number of lets say emails by holding down the shift key and dragging the mouse the recording starts to stop it just press the shift key
So what's causing this action and how to disable it or even uninstall the software responsible !

Think I may have found the cause the last time the red stop came on was when I did the two above screen shots and the file shows me compiling my previous file. The screen shot were done with flameshot so it looks like that the culprit however I can't make it happen

That's even more intriguing I don't have a cat
All of the files appear to be video's of some sort and when I tried to open one (a) up popped the red spot and (b) error message pop-up so now we know what happening just need to find the cause !

Thanks guy's for the replies I right clicked and choose open with Gdebi package installer and received 'unable to install not Debian package ! Found the install.md file and it opened a page with same info as Flemur provided !

When I run sudo /sbin/vboxconfig I get sudo: /sbin/vboxconfig: command not found I have tried purging virtualbox completely via synaptic packet manager but as I said earlier it gets so far and then generates a error message which I was going to copy however I now find I cannot open the synaptic pack...

Entered the first line of code and attempted to re-install VB but it again failed had the idea to the failure report maybe of help
